Event Hire Solutions Flat Race 4&5yo
Five newcomers could head to post for the opening race in the Devon and Cornwall Area on Sunday for the Flat Race. Champion jockey, James King, is booked to ride Vriament Cool for Andrew Glassonbury. Jake Bament has the option of two mounts. King Of Cool for Tim Dennis, who is related to winners Looking For Larry and Atlantic Lad. His other choice is Casstone from Megan Lawrence’s yard. Purchased for €4,000 at the Tattersalls July Store Sale in 2024, she is a half sister to Run Wild Fred, who produced a career best rating of 159 in the famous Gigginstown colours and also Lakota Warrior, who is well known in this area. Harry Ryall brings forward a 5 year old son of Shirocco called Coast Path and local trainer, Nikki Frost, has homebred Queen Sibylla entered.
Jackson Stops Maiden 2m4f
Champion trainer, Joshua Newman, has Le Tatoue Madrik entered, who comes here off the back of running over hurdles in Ireland. He was last seen finishing 2nd in Tramore for Gavin Cromwell. Choice Runner, for Darren McAlinden, has an interesting profile coming back to Points after being purchased from Dan Skelton. Another unsuccessful to get his head in front over hurdles, but clocked an official rating of 109. Gina Andrews has two four year old newcomers entered. Crimson Icarus was a £21,000 store from Goffs UK and Rich Mans World cost €52,000 from the Goffs Arkle Sale. Other leading yards with entries are Chris Barber and Will Biddick. Operation Dynamo, for Chris, is another four year old newcomer, by Blue Bresil, who was a €15,000 Derby Sale purchase. Biddick brings forward five year old Strictlycomerical, who cost €25,000, again, from the Tattersalls Derby Sale.
Totnes & Bridgetown Races Co Ltd Mixed Open
Duffle Coat has quite the CV having run in the Grand National and at the Cheltenham Festival and has since been purchased by Darren McAlinden for £11,500 from Gordon Elliott. The switch to Points could make him a very exciting recruit for the season and could take a bit of beating! Darren’s other entry, Just Loose Change, finished the season with two wins at South Hill and Bratton Down. Veteran, Punches Cross, has been a wonderful horse for Danielle Keneally and connections and rounded his season off by finishing 2nd at Cothelstone. Normofthenorth (Alan Hill) made his only Point run a winning one last season but had two disappointing runs under rules after. The lightly raced, Just Lucky Sivola, is still searching for a first win in Points. He was just touched off on his last run at Tabley for Luca Morgan.
Stanley Carpets Maiden (NWFAA)
Two entries with Irish Point to Point form behind them are Feellikeromancing and Unspokenxpecation. Feelikeromancing (Andrew Glassonbury) finished a well beaten 3rd on his only start but Unspokenxpectation was only beaten a neck on her last start at Toomebridge in May and has now joined John Heard. Both Le Tatoue Madrik and Choice Runner are entered in this 3 mile contest as well as the earlier 2m4f. Strolling Along deserves his day after four consistent runs in Points for Will Biddick. Newton Gold had to settle for the runner up spot on two occasions last season and will be hoping to go one better for Suzy Berry.
Exeter Racecourse Conditions (Level 2)
The biggest field of the day should come from the new Exeter Racecourse Conditions Series. Jeu Gagnant was a very eye-catching performer last season having won three of his four starts and finishing 2nd on the other occasion. Anna Johnston has a wonderful partnership with this horse for Leslie Jefford. David Pipe has Pachacuti entered, who has plenty of experience under rules and could see the return of Martin McIntyre in the saddle. Soldier Unknown has won six Point to Points for Alan Hill and was last seen at Edgcote winning a Conditions Race. Pirates’ Tale rounded off the season with a win and two second placings giving the Treneer family plenty of fun and fingers crossed will continue a good run of things for a family who put a lot into the sport. Just Lucky Sivola, Normofthenorth, Just Loose Change and Duffle Coat all hold double entries.
Moorland Timber Restricted
The final two races of the day look extremely competitive! Josh Newman is booked to ride Bollin Special for Will Biddick, who won on his only start at Cothelstone. Hugo Hunt is a very decent pilot and has Breathless Bishop entered having won his Maiden at Kimble by 30 lengths. Duffry Sea (Leslie Jefford) put a disappointing run behind him at Flete when winning comfortably at Upcott and caught the eye of several on this occasion. Lewis Road won his Maiden at Peper Harrow for Alan Hill but this race will be a lot more competitive. Charlotte Leary will have a very exciting season to look forward to with Riskamatriak, who comes here with a penalty after winning a Restricted at Upcott Cross. With Darren Andrews on the sidelines, Tourmaline has the booking of Henry Moore and was another to have a great season winning a Maiden at Larkhill and Restricted at Trebudannon for John Heard.
Intermediate
A very hot race to round off the card! Dollanstown won four of his seven starts last season and finished runner up on the other occasions and looks to be a seriously exciting horse for this season for Will Biddick. Wolf Walker, had a mixed season under rules for Clive Boultee Brooks but won three Points when in the care of Chris Barber. Now with Will Biddick, it won’t be long until he is back in the winner’s enclosure. Make Idaho Great was unbeaten for Josh Newman last season, having won five for owners John and Sonia Gardener. Cheltenham and Aintree Foxhunter winning trainer Joe O’Shea, has Le Boum Retourne entered and Joe is already off the mark after training the Ladies Open winner at Lower Machen. Le Boum Retourne is a dual Irish Point to Point winner for William Murphy, the same trainer who he purchased Barton Snow from. Catch Me Quick did very little wrong last season for Hannah Marshall but this looks to be a very competitive affair to round off the Buckfastleigh card.
