Two British point-to-pointers are set to join the line-up for Saturday’s Tattersalls Cheltenham January Sale.
The 23-lot auction, which takes place after racing, includes an entry for Jingle Du Gouet (Lot 2) and Jongleur D’Ainay (Lot 19), both five-year-old French-breds and winners this season.
Jingle Du Gouet (pictured above, no.9) finished second on debut at the Cornish venue of Great Trethew in November for Dorset trainer Chris Barber, but duly scored at the second time of asking when sent to Ampton in Suffolk on the Sunday before last. An €18,000 purchase as a store at Goffs in Ireland by his trainer and agent Ed Bailey, the son of Cokoriko was ridden in his two races by Will Biddick in the colours of The Boundary Stables Partnership.
Jongleur D’Ainay (Great Pretender) made his racing debut at Charlton Horethorne last season when a promising fourth behind Sea God, who has since gone on to win under rules. Trainer Tom Weston then sent him to Doncaster, where, suffering with a cut to his frog, he was slightly lame and was knocked down for £5,000 to Joe Hill. With that problem soon resolved, Jongleur D’Ainay then reappeared at Wadebridge earlier this month in the ownership of his trainer, Hill’s father Alan, and Jake Exelby of the Point-to-Point Authority.
Ridden by Izzie Marshall, Jongleur D’Ainay won in good style, beating eight opponents in the fastest time of the day.
