As part of the horse welfare programme, Point to Point will change to white take off boards and guard rails in the off season so all courses will be the same for both this season (orange) and next (white). This is part of the programme instituted by BHA to help horses see the fence properly and thus improve jumping/reduce falls.
We understand that there will be some scepticism but this is to do with how horses eyes work compared to our own. Extensive research has been done on this by Universities, but the following pictures illustrate the point:

Jumping White. For those concerned about whether horses will jump white obstacles, since we use white wings and rail to guide them, it is worthy of note that both New Zealand and France have always used white as does Cheltenham Cross-Country course and of course show Jumping. Of course, a few may object and so schooling fences will be of importance.
Practicalities and Expense. I am delighted to report that HBLB has most generously provided a sizeable grant which should cover the costs of this requirement for the courses. A separate instruction will follow to those involved. However, please note that the concept is to provide a sleeve for the Guard rail retaining the orange below in case of a change of plan.
Hunter Chases. For those of you who hunter chase, some courses under rules will be changing to white during this season. These are listed below:
