Brocklesby winner Pose joins Colin Tizzard

Owners and trainers of horses who have run in British point-to-points experienced mixed fortunes at Tattersalls’ Cheltenham February Sale on Friday.

Striking A Pose (pictured above), a four-year-old who had been trained by Tom Ellis for a debut win at Brocklesby Park six days earlier, was sold for £95,000 to bloodstock agent Ross Doyle, who was representing trainer Colin Tizzard.

Doyle, who was joined at the sales ring by Tizzard’s son Joe, said of Striking A Pose: “We thought he was the best-looking horse here. He looked really well for a horse who had run last weekend.

“I also liked the fact that he is by Getaway, who is becoming a very good sire.”

Striking A Pose, who had been bought as a store for €32,000, was led up at Cheltenham by Britain’s six-time champion woman rider Gina Andrews who had ridden him to victory.

A trio of British pointers failed to find buyers on the day. Bidding on the Sophie Lacey-trained, Milborne St Andrew winner Velasco halted at £95,000 and he was declared not sold, while his stablemate, Brocklesby winner Gold Clermont, was led from the ring once bidding halted at £28,000.

The valuation on Anya Ingman’s Glory And Honour, who won at Chaddesley Corbett, stopped at £58,000.

Of 40 lots offered 30 were sold. Turnover of £2,367,000 was down seven per cent and there was a 22 per cent fall in the average price to £78,900.
