With less than one month to go until the 2025/26 British Point-to-Point season kicks off, excitement is building as preparations ramp up at Lower Machen in Wales, the venue for the season’s opening fixture on Sunday 9th November.

Last week, Will Biddick and Sam Thomas took a spin around the course to get a feel for conditions ahead of the big day and it’s safe to say the track is in fantastic order, a real credit to the hard work of the Lower Machen team.

This season opener will also mark the first of 15 GB Pointing Bonus Young Horse Maiden races, part of the brand-new GB Pointing Bonus Scheme, launched to champion young horse development within British point-to-pointing, celebrate British breeding, and strengthen connections with the sales and National Hunt racing worlds.

The GB Pointing Bonus Scheme

The winner of each GB Pointing Bonus Young Horse Maiden becomes eligible for a GB Pointing Bonus upon winning an eligible race under rules:

  • £25,000 – for a British-bred horse
  • £15,000 – for a horse bred outside of Britain (e.g. Ireland, France)

The scheme, supported by Tattersalls Cheltenham and Goffs UK, aims to highlight the talent and professionalism within British point-to-pointing while promoting the value of homebred horses and generating exciting media stories that showcase the sport’s strength and future potential.

A huge thank you to our series sponsors Tattersalls Cheltenham and Goffs UK for their continued support.

The countdown is on and we can’t wait to get the season started…. See you at Lower Machen on Sunday 9th November!
