The new West Mercian fixture at Chaddesley Corbett on December 8th will feature the most valuable race in the early season pointing calendar thanks to sponsorship from a household name brand. The SPILLERS™ Mixed Open race now has a prize pot of £900.00 with £500.00 going to the winner and should attract some high-class open horses to the popular Worcestershire course.
Kay Scriven, Thoroughbred Nutritional Advisor at sponsors SPILLERS Horse Feeds said “As a company we understand how important point-to-point racing is to the racing industry and are pleased to support this new club initiative. It’s always good to see grass roots participants being rewarded for their success, and at the same time give the organizers something significant to promote the meeting with”.
The popular early December date at Chaddesley Corbett was nearly lost this year but a group of local enthusiasts stepped in at short notice to run it as a club fixture. Committee member John Hargreaves said “the sponsorship from SPILLERS is fantastic news for the West Mercian Area Races team who have been working hard to make the meeting happen. This fixture always gets a good entry and the enhanced prize money should attract even more horses”.
As well as striving to deliver a successful meeting, the WMAR team are also creating a blueprint that will help and inspire other clubs and associations to put on point-to-point meetings.
Paul Miller CEO of the Point-to-Point Authority said: “I’ve watched the West Mercian team with keen interest as they turned their dream of a point-to-point club fixture into reality at Chaddesley Corbett on December 8th. The passion, determination and hard work involved has been something to behold and it’s great to see they have got there.
“As club fixtures become a key part of pointing’s future it’s good to know there are people out there willing to lead the way, showing us what works and what the challenges are.
“I was delighted to hear SPILLERS had come on-board as a key sponsor for their fixture. To secure a premier brand speaks volumes and for SPILLERS to increase prize money for the mixed open to £500 for the winner, £250 for second and £150 for third, makes it the most valuable race of the season so far. So thank you SPILLERS and thank you the West Mercian team”
