Are you forward thinking and interested in positively shaping the future of British point-to-pointing?

Would you like to play a part in growing and ensuring the ongoing success of our national sport?

  • The Point-to-Point Authority (PPA) Board is made up of 7 members:
  • Chair
  • PPSA representative
  • Jockey Club representative
  • BHSA representative
  • PPORA representative
  • 2 x Independents

Elected members serve a 3-year term which can be extended once, after which they must step down.

Due to Fiona Needham (independent member and Yorkshire Area Chair) nearing the end of her second term, the PPA are currently inviting applications for her successor.

WHATS INVOLVED?

You will play a key role in shaping the future of British point-to-pointing, discussing and voting on changes and initiatives which will affect the sport. It’s not an easy role as you will be tasked, collectively as a board, with making some very tough, and at times unpopular, decisions and being able to comfortably defend the reasoning behind those decisions.

  • 3-year term
  • Attend four PPA Board meetings annually (ideally face-to-face but remote attendance is available)
  • Voting rights for changes and new ideas

The biggest challenges the sport faces are horse numbers, fixture numbers, fixture congestion and a possible trail hunting ban.

Otherwise, the sport is in relatively good shape with record crowd numbers over the last few seasons, sustained support from the wider racing community, a range of new initiatives introduced for the coming season, and a forward-thinking strategy aimed at growing pointing and getting it in front of a wider audience.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN THE PERSON?

  • A good understanding and knowledge of pointing and its challenges
  • Forward thinking and able to identify new solutions to answer these challenges
  • Always wanting to do what’s best for the sport as a whole, rather than for a particular faction or vested interest
  • A broad range of skills and experience outside of pointing
  • Commercial mindset
  • Understand the politics within pointing but not allow yourself or the sport to be held back by them
