Round two of the GB Pointing young horse maiden series, was kindly sponsored by GOFFS and went the way of the Josh Newman trained and ridden WOODSTOCK OCTO (IRE). The son of OCAVANGO (GB) showed real determination and future staying potential when running down long time leader ELECTRIC CITY (IRE) who himself showed he has improved since his 3rd to PEBBLE REBEL (GB) at Cothelstone towards the backend of last season, and on this form he will soon break the maiden tag for Keeper Ian Chanin.
As for WOODSTOCK OCTO, he has broken his maiden at the 4th time of asking following 3 promising runs in Irish PTP’s earlier this year, the last of which was a 15l 2nd to subsequent winner under rules WELONLYHAVEDONE (IRE) for trainer Gavin Cromwell. On this evidence the £11,500 paid for WOODSTOCK OCTO at the GOFFS Doncaster Spring HIT/PTP sales could prove to be a bargain.
The 3rd home, Will Biddick’s 4YO mare NEXT GEN (GB), cut out much of the running alongside ELECTRIC CITY and ran well for a long way before tiring. Another horse making a GB pointing debut having raced in Ireland in the spring, she’s one to watch next time out, alongside fellow 4YO debutant FARFROMAWAY (IRE) trained by Fran Poste; who caught the eye finishing his race strongly having been in danger of becoming detached after the 4th last, the persistent efforts of his rider Ed Doggrell where well rewarded to be in the mix for 3rd at the line.
