It’s back! Pointing returns to the West Mercian area for the first time this season with a competitively charged six-race card at Chaddesley Corbett this Sunday (December 7th) with racing set to kick-off at 11.00.

The meeting has attracted a very healthy entry of 84 and underfoot conditions should be perfect with clerk of the course Jim Squires reporting that the going is officially “good to soft”. There will be further updates during the week.

And the undoubted highlight of the meeting is the Mixed Open which could mark the return to the pointing fold of prolific winner Regatta De Blanc who is back under the tutelage of Will Biddick.

However, the mare comes into the race with a slight question mark hanging over her head as she pulled up on her last two starts in handicap company under Rules.

But rest assured Biddick will have left no stone unturned in her preparation for this comeback start and if anything close to the well-being that saw her rack up wins in points and a hunter chase, she will definitely take some beating.

Her main rivals may prove to be Ocean Drifter, Important Notice and Shanagh Bob but the first named pair have the choice of an alternative engagement earlier on the card.

Shanagh Bob looks of interest as he threatened much more than he delivered in his stretch under Rules and a switch to a smaller yard may well pay dividends as the season progresses. He is one to keep on the right side if showing promise here.

The PPORA Conditions (Level 3) contest also has a strong appearance at the entry stage but if the connections of the aforementioned Ocean Drifter and Important Notice do not fancy running in the Mixed Open, they could well have solid claims in this affair.

Both horses proved consistent performers last season with Important Notice taking the notable scalp of Barton Snow over this course and distance last December. The more cut in the ground the better for his cause.

Conversely, Ocean Drifter would probably be better suited by decent conditions but he remains on the upgrade and is not one to dismiss lightly.

The former classy handicapper Paint The Dream might also come in for consideration as he gave the impression that three miles on softish ground stretched his reserves before pulling up at Lower Machen recently.

The Restricted is another race with a very open appearance but Call Me Early is likely to be put in favourite by the bookmakers to carry on where he left off in points when landing the odds at High Easter in the Spring. Gina Andrews takes the ride.

Those looking to take on the skinny priced probable market leader could do worse than to have more than a glance at the likes of L’Aventara (Bradley Gibbs) and the ex-Irish The Dancing Tree (Alan Hill).

First up is the latest leg of the Young Horse Maiden Series for 4-year-olds and the line-up is obviously from many of the yards expected to play their hands in these types of races where the winner is short odds to be heading to the Sales.

Close inspection in the paddock beforehand and the betting ring closer to the race might highlight some positive clues and cast aside some of the guessing game. Those horses expected to perform well are generally well backed beforehand

The three against the field at the time of writing are Briskalo (Bradley Gibbs), L’Hybris Is Born (Gina Andrews) and Uncle Boss (Will Biddick).

The Conditions (Level 3) for Novice Riders contest could go the way of Everything Now, who is now in the care of Tom Scudamore having been switched from the Jo Priest yard.

He boasts a success over course and distance in the same race two years ago. He showed last term that he still retains enough ability to be of interest in this line up with regular rider Alexandra Ingram in the saddle.

The finale is a Maiden for 5-year-olds and over and Entity Of Substanz is likely to make his pointing debut. This well bred gelding can make his presence felt and provide rider/trainer Gina Andrews with yet another success on the card.
