The Point-to-Point Authority is delighted to announce that the Jockey Club & Point-to-Point Authority–sponsored Hands and Heels for Novice Riders series will commence at Friars Haugh on Sunday 8th February. As part of this, a 7th race has been added to the Berwickshire meeting, with the Hands and Heels Conditions Race transferred from the cancelled Jedforest fixture. This is the only Hands and Heels race in the Northern Area, offering an important opportunity for novice riders early in the season.

The Hands And Heels race has these conditions, as before:

SPECIAL CONDITIONS For horses which have not won a Men’s, Ladies or Mixed Open since 1st October 2023. Horses may only win ONE Conditions Level 3 race this season. Horses with a Level 1 or Level 2 Conditions win during the current season are ineligible.

Allowances: None

PENALTIES: For a win on or since 1st October 2023 in a Steeplechase or Hurdle race under the Rules of any recognised Racing Authority (Point-to-Points excepted) to carry 7lb extra, and for each win in a Conditions race at the same Level or higher (to include Confined, Club Association, Service or Society Point-to-Point races) in this period to carry 5lb extra. Maximum penalty to be carried is 10lb.

Penalties are cumulative.
