Point to Pointing continues in the Devon and Cornwall area on Sunday, with Buckfastleigh holding the Dart Vale & Haldon Harriers meeting. Pony racing will start the day at 12 noon, and 70 entries have been made for the point-to-point races, starting at 1:00 pm. The Goffs GB Pointing Bonus is the second race on the card, with the winner eligible for the attractive bonus if they go under rules and win within the criteria in the next two seasons!

The Ashburton Motor Works South & East Devon Conditions (Level 2)

The opener looks like it could be another battle between Call Simon and Fighter Allen. Call Simon (Robert Chanin) has not been seen since Dunsmore in November but ran well in defeat when coming home 11 lengths behind Noble Blue. He has Aran McManus booked to ride him, who piloted him when dead heating with Fighter Allen to win the Mixed Open at Chipley Park last season. Fighter Allen, now with Ed Walker, gave his new jockey, James Pyman, a lovely ride in a big field at Badbury Rings when finishing an 8 lengths 4th. He will be the main danger for Call Simon and could provide James Pyman with his first winner. Neither should mind the ground and it could be a battle up the hill for these two!

The Luscombe Maye & Goffs GB Pointing Bonus Young Horse Maiden Series (4 & 5 years old)

Always an exciting type of race where we could witness a star of the future born. 13 entries have been received with 8 looking to make their racecourse debuts. The Josh Newman team took both the GB Pointing Bonus races last weekend and holds two entries here. Good Shout is out of Goodgirlteresa, who was a three time winner on the track, including once when Josh piloted her in 2020. Maitre d’Oudaries is a french bred newcomer and both should be ones to watch. Chris Barber is having an incredible season and has Stick Season entered, who finished 3rd in the Maiden at Badbury Rings behind the impressive Six Two Three and Electric City, who has gone on to win since. Will Biddick is double handed with entries with unraced Lascar Collonges and Run Ruby Run. Lascar Collonges was a €35,000 store from the Derby Sale 2024 and Run Ruby Run cost €9,000 when purchased last July. Eamonn O’Donnabhain has an incredible strike rate with newcomers and has a daughter of Jet Away, La Coya entered. She is a half sister to Sinchi Roca, who won on debut for connections in December 2024 and went on to win a Bumper and over hurdles after being sold. Tom George had a winner at Didmarton and has Le Sazenay looking to make a debut here too.

The Totnes & Bridgetown Mixed Open Race “The Westcountry Champion Chase”

A small but competitive field for the feature race of the day. Five time Point winner, Hearts Corner, won the Ladies Open in December at Wadebridge and after an incredible weekend for Josh Newman, he will be looking to add another winner to his seasonal tally. Chris Barber had Mount Sinai in great order at Dunsmore when she took the Mixed Open easily but has not quite found that form in her last two runs. Course winner, Quintin’s Man, will be piloted by Darren Andrews fresh from riding his 100th Point to Point winner at Charlton Horethorne. He ran well in defeat at Wadebridge behind Beacon Edge but found the company of Grace A Vous Enki too hot in the Coronation Gold Cup at Larkhill and was pulled up. Punches Cross has been a great servant for Mr and Mrs Sweetland and chased home Al Gasparo at Wadebridge but looked out of his comfort zone last time out at Larkhill. Megan Lawrence did a great job of getting Minella Jab back after a long lay off and was rewarded with a great win beating Clondaw Drake at Wadebridge.

The Exeter Racecourse INTERMEDIATE RACE Series Qualifier Race

The Here Come The Girls Syndicate celebrated well after Jeu Gagnant won at Badbury Rings providing Leslie Jefford with his first win of the season. He could be the main danger to Eileen’s Milan who comes here off the back of winning his only two starts for Chris Barber last season. Go Sacre Go won on seasonal debut at Badbury Rings in November but ran free at Wincanton on his latest start. Paddy Barlow takes the ride for Sally Alner and should put up a good performance if conserving energy early in the race! Jenny Carr is still seeking her first winner since coming back to the sport and she has The Gooner entered here. He has been disappointing on all his other starts this season so will need to be back to form to be competitive amongst the market leader.

The Winston Pincombe Maiden Race (NWFAA)

Hannah Marshall has been enjoying a great season so far and brings forward Myfanwy’s Magic. The gelding was running a brilliant race when practically being brought down two from home at Badbury Rings. If coming out of that none the worse, he should hold a strong chance in this! Josh Newman does very well with ex Irish Point to Pointers and has Champagne Blue in this for Blackmore Racing Club. He finished 3rd on debut at Moig South but pulled up on his next appearance. It has been a while since Philip Rowley has had a runner at Buckfastleigh but he has Hopeful Herbie looking for his maiden win after a 3rd place at Brocklesby Park. Jack Oddsocks could run into a place after running creditably well at Badbury Rings under Anna Johnston. Lascar Collonges and Le Sazenay also hold entries in this race if opting away from the earlier Maiden.

The Jockey Club Maiden for Mares & Fillies only

The biggest field of the day could come from this race with 16 entries received. Emmas Wish (John Heard) looked back on track when coming home a close third behind a well fancied 4 year old of Tom Laceys. Miss Gotaway won her Restricted on this card some 11 years ago and her progeny, Glancing Past, is looking to make her racecourse debut here for Ed Walker. Millyellen has now joined Jenny Boucher and had been knocking on the door on all three of her runs this season when with the Josh Newman team. Walkingtheline was another to finish behind a Tom Lacey runner two weeks ago at Larkhill and could go one better here for Chris Barber. Harriet Waight brings forward Clody Pearl, who has the experience of two runs in Irish Point to Points and could be another to benefit with the switch to English racing.

The Barton Solicitors Devon & Cornwall Area Conditions Race (Level 3)

Clondaw Drake will be hoping to put his 2nd place from Wadebridge behind him and hopefully give leading owners, John and Sonia Gardener another winner. He notched up five wins last season and was really a horse to follow. Josh Newman also has Important Notice entered who hasn’t really found last season’s form yet. He was well beaten in a Hunter Chase at Hereford when getting brought down. A very interesting entry is The Big Breakaway who has been retired from National Hunt racing and is now with Leslie Jefford and The Westcountry Breakaways. He reached a peak rating of 151 after finishing 2nd in the Coral Welsh Grand National when trained by Joe Tizzard. He lost his way after falling in the Grand National but came back to form when Anna Johnston finished 2nd on him in the North Wales National Chase. He loves a stamina test and could really enjoy the switch to GB Pointing!
