A red letter day for keeper Neil Gittins, with a training treble, including a riding double for the Sankeys, Guy riding Great Valley to win the Miles Macadam sponsored Mixed Open race, and Iola riding BlagTheBookies in the ERG Finance Conditions (Level 2), as well as Major Kingston, ridden by Felix Barlow, winning the Boxton Gates Limited 5 years and over Maiden race. There were loud cheers in the parade ring – a little bit of déjà vu, with the husband and wife having ridden the same double the previous year.

Neil was delighted, saying ‘it was fantastic for his owners, The 3 O’Clock Fox, Mr C Baird and Mrs I Sankey, and The Rock Solid Partnership respectively. His horses have come to the meeting fresh, having had a short break, and he was particularly grateful for the fantastic ground at Bangor.’

Guy Sankey claimed himself almost speechless about Great Valley, who he described as a ‘special horse, that had strengthened from last year, galloped and jumped exceptionally well, staying on in the ground’, finishing in the fastest 3mile time of the day.

Felix Barlow was given praise by the trainer and also awarded the West Mercian Area Novice ride of the day for his winning ride.

Another keeper who was delighted with the ground, (particularly thanking Bangor head groundsman Andrew Malam for a very accurate description by phone, before their long journey), was Alan Hill, who’s Drayton Flyer, ridden by Ed Vaughan, won the Jones Bros PPROA Club Members Restricted race by a wide margin. Purchased as a fun horse from Olly Murphy, said to be a big green horse, and to need a flat galloping track, his owner Mr Jeremy Hill (no relation) was elsewhere, at Charlton Horethorne with other horses (placed), and Alan was delighted to give him a winner on the day.

The Alan’s Skip Hire West Mercian Area Conditions race was won by Peaches and Cream, ridden by Huw Edwards, for the G.O.A.T syndicate who, having switched inside after the last, got back up to beat Malinas Glory (Ed Vaughan).

The opening Corbetts four and five year old point-to-point flat race was won impressively by home bred favourite Wise Maiden, under Zac Baker, who was thrilled to have a winner in the colours Mr R R Evans.

The organisers were rewarded with almost 70% runners to entries, on good to soft ground, soft after the last fence to the post, in front of a good crowd.
