A big crowd is expected at the Overton Farm course in Crossford on Saturday 21st March for the Lanarkshire & Renfrewshire and Eglinton fixture, which will again be the most valuable Point-to-Point of the season nationwide.

It has total prize-money of £6,500 on offer plus an additional £250 to the leading owner, with none of the six races worth less than £1,000 and a minimum first prize of £500.

The 12 entries for the opening 3m Complete Weed Control (SSE) Ltd Northern Area Conditions Race at 1.00pm are headed by recent Buccleuch scorer Townhill. Lucy Brown’s mount was an easy four lengths winner of the ‘0-110 Rated Series’ Conditions Race at Friars Haugh from Not The Chablis and is unpenalised for that success. Of the others, Deerstalker made all here when landing the 2m4f Conditions Race on last season’s card and found only Whats The Solution too good in the Buccleuch Mixed Open over his favourite 2m4f trip. Where’s Willy was placed in 6 Maidens in a row before deservedly getting his head in front at Alnwick four weeks ago and is probably best with some cut in the ground, this season’s 2m4f Berwickshire Maiden winner Phantoms Cave was still three lengths up and going well when falling three out in the Buccleuch Restricted, while Theoldboggroad has been placed in 3 of 4 outings in Restricted contests this term with his best effort coming when six lengths 2nd to Hugo Moss at Friars Haugh a fortnight ago.

The aforementioned Phantoms Cave will take all the beating if opting for the 2m4f Gouldings Garden Centre Conditions Race (8 entries). However, if Mike Cregan’s charge runs in the opener, this contest has a more open look with the business end of proceedings likely to concern Darkest Day, First One D’Ana, Itwasfate and Paddy Moans. Trained at Overton by Wassels Young, Darkest Day was a four-time winner over hurdles between March 2021 and September 2023 up to 2m5f with his best form when ridden positively. Itwasfate finished runner-up in a 2m Wexford Chase in August 2025 and was still in contention when unseating four out in the 2m4f Buccleuch MIxed Open, Berwickshire Maiden winner Paddy Moans backed up that run when five lengths 2nd to High On The Hill at Alnwick, while 2m4f course winner First One D’Ana faced an impossible task on his last 5 outings in Mixed Open company.

Locally trained Western Run is unbeaten at the track, recording two wins in 2023 and two wins in 2025, and Sean Cameron’s mount should be fully tuned up in his bid for an Overton five-timer in the 3m Hillhouse Quarry Group Mixed Open Race for Novice Riders following pipe-openers at Alnwick and Friars Haugh. The main danger is Midlands raider Somptueux who recorded his best efforts this season when runner-up at Badbury Rings and Alnwick, and Marina Bealby’s mount would be in much calmer waters at Overton than if contesting a Garthorpe Mixed Open against higher rated rivals. The other 7 entries include the aforementioned trio of Deerstalker, Itwasfate and Theoldboggroad, along with course winner Clapton Hill who was well placed to land a trio of small field 2m4f contests last term.

Last season’s dual Overton scorer Whats The Solution is the one to beat in the 3m Atlas Cranes UK Mixed Open Race. He recorded the best time of the day at the March fixture, and had plenty left in the tank when beating Deerstalker and Eagles Rock in the recent 2m4f Buccleuch equivalent. The aforementioned Townhill and Somptueux also figure among the 10 entries, while others to note are Annie Magic who won first time out at Alnwick in January, the consistent Eagles Rock who might well have finished closer to Whats The Solution at Friars Haugh had he not made a bad mistake three out, and course winner Batman For Ever who made an eye-catching reappearance when runner-up to Whatdeawant at Friars Haugh a fortnight ago.

A competitive-looking 2m4f Euro Steel Shutters Ltd Maiden Race has 8 entries with little to separate the main protagonists on ratings. G N Jefferson and ex-Irish hurdler Neska Blue represent Jack Teal’s Malton yard. The former shaped well for a long way on debut at Didmarton a fortnight ago and should be suited by the drop in trip, while Neska Blue finished eight lengths 3rd on yard debut behind stable companion Job Well Done at Duncombe Park last month. Bentley Road, Hurricane Harmony and Loch Frisa are set to renew rivalries for the second time in a fortnight after all running well in the Buccleuch equivalent won by Guess What. On his first start for twenty three months, Bentley Road was still just in front under Freddie Robson when running out through the wing at the last leaving Hurricane Harmony to finish one length 2nd and Loch Frisa two lengths 4th.

The 10 entries for the concluding 3m Tummel Construction Maiden Race are headed by Nick Orpwood’s mount Sir Pat who drops down in grade after finishing nine lengths 3rd to Harjo at Alnwick last time out. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Jack Teal’s debutante Bresil Hill was in the mix, the step up in trip should suit Helm Bar who finished runner-up in a Young Horse Maiden at Charm Park earlier this month, while long distance traveller Pip Pirrip finished two lengths 2nd in a 13-runner Bangor-on-Dee Maiden two weeks ago and is open to further improvement.

The main action is preceded by the George Crawford Legacy Trust Pony Races, with 7 entries for the 138cm Open and 7 entries for the 148cm Open.

Admission is £15 per person including a racecard, with U16’s free.

The Overton Farm course lies adjacent to the A72 in Crossford and is easily accessible from the M74, leaving at J8 if travelling from the South and J7 from the North. The post code is ML8 5QF.
