It is the turn of Cherrybrook to hold their Point to Point on Saturday and they have received a healthy number of entries. A picturesque course and the perfect way to start the Easter Holidays! Entrance is £15pp and under 16s go free. Cash or card accepted on the gate. Postcode PL190LA.

The Spooners and West Dartmoor Supporters Maiden Race

The three local form horses to bring forward for the first race on the card include Champagne Blue. He finished 2nd for Blackmore Racing Club and Josh Newman at Buckfastleigh three weeks ago and the winner, Galudon, scored at Cotley last weekend. Slide Rule, for James Shaw and Danielle Kenealy, chased home Dance Ifyoucan at Kilworthy and looked to be doing his best work at the end and could go close. Will Biddick brings forward Winding Lake, a 5 year old mare who receives a 11lb weight allowance. She was runner up at Badbury Rings on debut and then finished 3rd at Wadebridge. She pulled up on her next start but no doubt connections will draw a line through that. Of the others, Rhythm Of Life cannot be ignored for Luke Price. Luke has a great strike rate and this ex Gordon Elliott mare, ran to a best OR of 106 and could be the main challenger.

The GSP Solutions Owners & Trainers Restricted Race

Shareyourbiscuits (Luke Price) and Make Idaho Great (Joshua Newman) were both Restricted winners on their previous starts and therefore have to carry the 5lb penalty. Luke also brings forward Lightning Legs, who took the Mares Maiden at Larkhill last Saturday. Dollanstown (Will Biddick) could not get the better of Carrillo at Maisemore and would be another looking at a quick turn around. Several of the field chased home Make Idaho Great at Kilworthy two weeks ago and best of those were Lough Owel, who now looks to have the booking of Hattie Grose, who is looking to make her racecourse debut. One Tree Hill just got touched off under Jack Stenhouse at Cotley and would be a great win for Louise Kittow. Zalando took the Hunt Race at Kilworthy for Pauline Geering and could be in the mix here.

The Totnes & Bridgetown Races Company Conditions Race

The conditions race holds special conditions that the jockey, before this meeting, cannot have ridden more than 20 winners under any rules of recognised racing and has therefore attracted 10 entries. Jeu Gagnant looks the interesting entry here and has been impressive on both starts so far this season for Leslie Jefford. Joshua Newman has both Talimar Pearl and Holiday Fund entered but neither have been able to get their heads in front yet this season. Reflex Action for Heidi McCreesh, has not been seen since April 2023. He was a very consistent sort but would need to overcome the 3 year layoff. The Treneer Family are huge enthusiasts of the sport and  have Do Whatever entered. It would be great to see them come home with a winner.

The Simple Solar Ltd Mixed Open Race

The feature race of the day is the Mixed Open and has attracted a very strong entry. Hidden Heroics and Harry Neale have created a brilliant partnership and are already three time winners this season including two at Wadebridge and most recently getting the better of Beacon Edge at Kilworthy. Jet Smart chased Hidden Heroics home at Kilworthy and was only beaten 4 lengths back into third and either would be great winners for trainer Emma Summersby. Hearts Corner (Joshua Newman) won the Westcountry Champion Chase in great style at Buckfastleigh and had taken a Ladies Open at Wadebridge the time before. Histronic has mostly stayed in the Wessex Area this season and is another to be very consistent. He was a winner at Larkhill under the very promising young jockey Lucas Murphy, who is now challenging for the National Men’s Novice Jockey title.

The TRW Engineering Conditions Race

Lavorante comes here off the back of winning a match race at Cotley but got beat by Madame Le’strange at Charlton Horethorne. Luke Price is known to turn them out quickly so it would be no surprise to see him reappear here. Far Out West won a Restricted at Ston Easton beating Miltown Bridge and could keep the good form of Will Biddick’s yard rolling. Lady Reset holds some interesting back form and has joined Leslie Jefford from David Pipe. She has won four times over hurdles, five on the flat turf and is now looking to add a Point to Point win to her CV. Hidden Heroics, Holiday Fund and Talimar Pearl also feature as entries if not opting for their earlier engagements.

The Greatrex Racing Spooners & West Dartmoor Hunt Members, Subscribers & Farmers

Caspers Court finished a very close 2nd in this race last season and will be hoping to go one better here. He ran creditably well at Trebudannon last weekend to finish 4th in the Mixed Open under new rider, Matilda Garton. Get Off Your Phone (Jimmer Cole) benefitted for the first time blinkers at Trebudannon to finish 2nd to Minella Jab in the Conditions and the final entry comes in the way of Eco Pete, a new recruit for Luke Price. He was picked up for £2,000 out of the Thoroughbid Sale and won a National Hunt Flat Race back in August 2021.
