A thoroughly competitive and varied six-race card awaits racegoers at Bitterley on Easter Saturday (April 4) where the first contest has a scheduled off-time of 2pm.
Underfoot conditions at the Shropshire circuit should be ideal come the weekend with clerk of the course Jim Squires reporting: “We are good and good to soft in places at the moment with a little drizzle in the forecast for Friday
“Taking every thing into account I foresee that the going will be much the same on raceday as there is still plenty of moisture in the ground, especially down the back straight where it’s always a little softer.”
Anyone looking for a banker bet on the card could do worse than the Francesca Poste-trained Glancing Hill who lines up for the PPORA Club Members Conditions (Level 1) contest.
The six-year-old has proved a model of consistency for connections as his only defeat in four outings this term has been at the hands of the progressive Gelino Bello at Larkhill back in February.
Poste’s husband Charlie said: “Glancing Hill is a really lovely horse who does not know when he is beaten as he did very well to get back up and dead-heat with Alaphilippe at Didmarton recently
“The undulations at that course didn’t really suit the horse but he was very brave and the much flatter contours at Bitterley should be in his favour. Zak Baker, his regular jockey, will take the ride again.”
His main rival appears to be Yippee Ki Yay, who ran really well to be runner-up behind Macklin in an Exeter hunter chase last time, but he has a couple of other entries over the weekend which may prove more enticing.
The PPORA Club Members Restricted has an open appearance and it might pay to take a chance with Samba Mambo who should appreciate the return to some better ground.
Locally based Diana Ralph took the Members contest with Tzarmix 12 months ago and she appears to have a cracking chance of repeating the dose with Iontach Cheval in this years renewal.
The gelding will have should come on considerably for his return to action at Bangor four weeks ago and the more suitable going on offer this time around should also be in his favour.
Biggest field of the afternoon may well be reserved for the Five Years Old And Over Maiden where Myfanwy’s Magic has been found an ideal slot to get his head in front.
A carbon copy of his neck second to Bollin Special where he led everywhere but the line would surely be enough to take him very close in this company.
Those looking for an alternative could do worse than Tenthousandreasons as he has the look of a dark horse in as much that he was sent off favourite for bumper under Rules but disappointed. He could be anything.
The Conditions (Level 3) For Novice Riders may not take that much winning and Malinas Glory, trained by Hannah Lewis, might prove the answer as he ran well at Bangor last time.
Previous experience usually counts for much in bumpers and that may well be the case again with the pair that catch the eye being Oxo Called and Spanish Darling. Preference is just for the former.
