The second meeting held at Dunsmore takes place on Sunday with a great, competitive number of entries. First race is due off at 2:00pm. £15 per person (Accompanied U16 go free). Tickets available online in advance or cash/card on the day. Postcode EX5 4DU.

Jockey Club Mares Maiden

Winding Lake looks as if she will go off favourite for the opener at Dunsmore. She finished 13 lengths third behind Slide Rule at Cherrybrook last weekend and comes from the in form yard of Will Biddick. Granny Smith was another to finish 3rd on her last appearance behind Millyellen at Cothelstone for Teresa Clark. Rebecca Vanstone trained her first winner at this course last year and will be hoping Lady Wilhelmina can take a step forward from her run at Larkhill. Four of the eight entries are looking to make their racecourse debuts in this Mares only Maiden. Of the unraced ones, Dart Of Ginger catches the eye for Josh Newman. She is out of multiple winning mare, G For Ginger, who had a good career under rules for Anthony Honeyball.

Jockey Club and PPA ‘Hand and Heels’ Condition (Level 1) For Novice Riders

The ‘Hands and Heels’ series is a great initiative for Novice Riders where they gain points. Ten runners could head to post, with the Emma Summersby pair looking to make quick reappearances. Jet Smart took the Mixed Open at Cherrybrook and Hidden Heroics had to settle for 2nd when coming home behind Holiday Fund on the same card. Danielle Kenealy enjoyed a winner at Cothelstone and has course winner Skilful Lord entered for owner Brian Palfrey. This will be the horse’s first start of the season, but will have spent the majority of the winter hunting before appearing on a racecourse! Dewi Haddock enjoyed his first winner at Howick, which soon turned into his first double! He steered Up For Appeal to win the ‘Hands and Heels’ race where Paint The Dream, under Lucy Pickford (currently top of the leaderboard), chased him home on this occasion. The pair could meet again and with Paint The Dream also winning the ‘Hands and Heels’ at Ston Easton, both will be looking to gain more points to go towards the series.

Steve Yeandle Contractors and Stuart Luxton Digging and Drainage Contractors Intermediate

The Intermediate could provide the biggest field of the day with 11 strong entries. Woodstock Octo (Josh Newman) remains unbeaten in his four starts since joining the yard and most recently won at Trebudannon when beating What’s Up Harry. What’s Up Harry (Ed Rees) was a gutsy winner at Didmarton on his start before and has been in great form this season. Clonagoose looks extremely progressive since joining Emma Summersby and is another to have enjoyed 4 wins, including the Members Race on Easter Monday at Trebudannon. Catch Me Quick (Hannah Marshall) has always been held in high regard and won on seasonal debut this season. He has notched up three 2nd placings since and was a course winner at the opening meeting of the season. Chris Barber brings forward Eileens Milan, who has only ran twice this season which includes taking the Restricted at Cothelstone.

A&S Paving and Building Supplies Mixed Open

Al Gasparo will have to defy a 7lb penalty for winning three Opens already this season and looks to be the big danger to the rest of the field. Along with him, Josh Newman has Beacon Edge also entered, who took the Mixed Open at Wadebridge and Didmarton, but could not quite get to Hidden Heroics when he last ran at Kilworthy. Jet Smart, if opting away for the earlier race, is a prolific Point to Point winner for the Summersbys and won the Mixed Open at Cherrybrook on Easter Saturday. On Springs provided Dewi Haddock with his riding double at Howick but could find this company a bit more competitive! It was great to see Regatta de Blanc return to winning ways at Cothelstone on Easter Monday after losing her way under rules for Paul Nicholls. Will Biddick has her entered again and her 7lb mares allowance could prove handy against the boys!

PPORA and Heltor Heating and Fuel Supplies Club Members Restricted

Darren Andrews has been enjoying a great season and Tourmaline provided him with one of his five winners at the first Trebudannon meeting. He looked to benefit from the drop back to 2m4f on that occasion so the step back up to 3 miles should be considered. Uncle Boss ran away with the field at Milborne when coming home a 30 length winner of his Maiden for Will Biddick. Make Idaho Great has caught many people’s eyes this season after winning at Charlton Horethorne and Kilworthy and it looks as if John & Sonia Gardener have another smart horse on their hands. Farm Assured (Chris Barber) looked very green when winning at Kilworthy and would have needed to have improved in the jumping department against these more experienced horses. Liam Corcoran had Up Killoughey in great form last season and may have just needed the run when finishing 6th on seasonal debut at Milborne, although he wasn’t beaten very far. Protect The Future finished just in front of Up Killoughey at Milborne and is definitely one to keep an eye on for trainer and soon to be mum, Hannah Marshall!

Devon Farriers Maiden

The Thomas Family look to have a nice horse in Suvla Bay, who chased home Dance Ifyoucan at Kilworthy and put up an eye-catching run on the day. It would be great to see these colours in the winners enclosure for a family who have been long time supporters of Point to Points. Riskamatriark put up a great performance when giving Tourmaline a run for his money at Trebudannon and is now a step down in grade but a step up in trip. This would be a welcome winner for Charlotte Leary. Will Biddick has the 4 year old unraced Son Of Saratoga entered, who was a €11,000 Store purchase last season. Will has done great with his debutant and you would imagine he will be very competitive in this. Myfanwy’s Magic really deserves to get his head in front after running some very solid races this season and could continue Charlie Marshall’s great Point to Point season. Chris Barber’s King’s Affinity has shown next to nothing in Ireland for Sean Doyle but Chris does well with the ex-Irish Pointers and no doubt will work his magic with this one!
