The first May Bank Holiday draws to a close at Vauterhill Point to Point on Monday. A good amount of entries have been received for this six race card. First race gets underway at 2pm with gates opening at noon. Entry is £15 per person with under 16s going free. Young Farmers are £10 with proof of a membership. Postcode EX37 9BT.
Lomas Helicopters & D S Electricals Conditions (Level 2)
Len Brennan made a seasonal appearance at Chilfrome when finishing second to Jewel In The Park. He is a stand out entry in the opening race for trainer Will Biddick. Investment Manager was a high profile horse for Joe Tizzard but hasn’t quite reached the same level since switching back to Point To Points. He finished 3rd to Ninth Wave on his most recent start under Ashley Dascombe. Both Makety and Diplomate Sivola chased home Talimar Pearl at Cherrybrook but could find the competition in Len Brennan too stiff.
Commodore Hotel & Blue Box Self Storage Restricted
6 of the 10 entries won their maiden when they were last seen. Farm Assured looked extremely green on debut at Kilworthy when winning a match on race for Chris Barber. Chris also has the Lower Machen maiden winner Taktics entered. Dreamaboutit (Ed Rees) and Absolut Grey (Emma Summersby) were both winners of their maidens at Flete Park two weeks ago and should run well stepping up in grade. Amber Jackson-Fennell gave Winding Lake a great ride at Dunsmore to come home in front in the Mares Maiden and James King could look to partner What A Pleasure again after winning at Chilfrome for Heidi McCreesh.
R & CH Wilson Builder Ltd and Fernley Lott Architects Mixed Open
Hearts Corner is currently unbeaten this season for trainer Josh Newman who also has the two time Point winner Beacon Edge entered. Call Simon has form with Hearts Corner but had to settle for 2nd in the West Country Champion Chase at Buckfastleigh under Aran McManus. Crawter took the Intermediate Final at Cheltenham Hunter Chase evening last season and came here off the back of winning an open at Larkhill for Harriet Waight. He is declared at Warwick’s Hunterchase evening on Friday. Mount Sinai has been in good form this season and provided Chris Barber with three winners and Punches Cross finished alone at Chilfrome for Danielle Kenealy. Cluain Aodha ran eye-catchingly well at Flete Park to finish one length behind Jeu Gagnant. The mare could provide Ellie Hatcher with her first trained winner.
Totnes & Bridgetown & F C Cleaning Grassroots Rider Conditions (Level 2)
This looks like an extremely hot race on paper with several good horses entered. Luke Price won’t have the option of James King in this but has got Inchidaly Robin and Galudon entered. Inchidaly Robin was the National Leading Horse last season but has been beaten in three of his four points so far this season. Harry Neale and Hidden Heroics have won between the flags three times in Harry’s first season and has been the perfect partner for him. Skilful Lord loves this time of year and ran a pleasing seasonal debut at Dunsmore in a similar race. Danielle Kenealy also has Punches Cross entered. Madame Le’strange started out in maiden company at Wadebridge and already finds herself being very competitive in Conditions races for Will Biddick. Unfortunately, due to a jockey error, she got disqualified at Flete Park when winning comfortably. Holiday Fund was last seen winning under Josh Newman at Cherrybrook, beating Hidden Heroics which saw a career best for him and could take some beating if in the same form.
Jockey Club & VVF Containers and Cabins Mares Maiden
With 14 entered in the Mares Maiden, this could provide the biggest field of the day. Chris Barber has the four-year-old Ms Belle looking to make her Racecourse debut. Josh Newman has three entered. Dart Of Ginger made her debut at Dunsmore when finishing 4th. Cherry Lane, a full sister to Jet Smart, also finished fourth on her debut over fences at Trebudannon. She was an early casualty at Flete Park two weeks ago when unseating Josh. Ghost Jury hasn’t found her way under rules but got on well Pointing for previous connections and the switch back might bring out some confidence in her. Harriet Waight could bring forward Clody Pearl, who finished third and fourth on her only English starts. Troubleisontheway could continue a good day for Danielle Kenealy, if taking a step forward from her third at Cothelstone.
Brewer Harding & Rowe & Equi Dry Maiden
Devon Rogue ran with plenty of promise at Lower Machen for Rebecca Vanstone and really caught the eye on debut. Monderra was another one for the notebook when finishing 2nd at Cherrybrook behind Slide Rule. Emma Summersby is enjoying a great season and could add another winner to her tally with this one. Run Ruby Run, for Will Biddick, ran very green at Trebudannon when finishing third behind Emmas Wish and Chris Barber will be hoping Stick Season can get his head in front after hitting the crossbar twice.
