Reported case numbers of Equine Influenza have been rising across the country, resulting in last Sunday’s rules fixture at Plumpton being abandoned due to a confirmed case in a nearby livery yard.
This was a precautionary measure given the highly contagious nature of equine flu, which is airborne over reasonable distances and can be transmitted indirectly, including via people.
All horses running in Britain, either under rules or in point-to-points, must be vaccinated in line with the Rules of Racing, with booster jabs administered no more than six months apart.
