The passion, skill and dedication of horseracing industry staff will once again be celebrated this summer as Racing Welfare launches Racing Staff Week 2026, alongside an exciting new initiative in partnership with Betfair.
Taking place from Saturday 20th June to Friday 26th June 2026, Racing Staff Week aims to bring the racing industry and its wider community together to recognise the contribution of everyone working across racing and Thoroughbred breeding – from stud and stable staff to racecourse teams, breeders, trainers and administrative staff.
Now marking its 10th year, and generously supported by Betfair as headline sponsor, the campaign will once again feature a programme of activities across the country, including charity stable staff races and community events, all designed to celebrate racing’s workforce and strengthen connections within the industry.
This year, Racing Welfare is proud to launch the Betfair Bucket List, a new initiative created to celebrate individuals within the racing community by helping them achieve a meaningful personal ambition.
The initiative, introduced in recognition of Betfair’s decade-long support of Racing Staff Week, offers one member of the racing or breeding community the opportunity to receive up to £1,000 towards a life-enhancing experience or challenge.
Whether it is pursuing a long-held ambition, taking on a new personal challenge, or achieving something never thought possible, the Betfair Bucket List is designed to recognise individual journeys, champion ambition and inspire others across the industry.
Applications are now open to anyone working in or retired from the racing or Thoroughbred breeding industries who has a connection to Racing Welfare. Entrants are invited to share their story, outline their chosen experience and explain why it matters to them.
The successful applicant will also receive ongoing support from Racing Welfare, as well as the opportunity to share their story and inspire others throughout their journey.
Dawn Goodfellow, Chief Executive of Racing Welfare, said:
“Racing Staff Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate the incredible people who are at the heart of our sport and to bring communities together across the country.
As we mark 10 years of the campaign, we are delighted to launch the Betfair Bucket List – a meaningful way to recognise the individual stories within our industry and support someone in achieving something truly important to them. We hope it will inspire others to reflect on their own ambitions and the positive impact they can have.”
Lauren Hayhoe, Betfair’s Brand Activation Manager said:
“We’re delighted to be supporting Racing Staff Week for the tenth consecutive year. A fantastic week that celebrates the passion and dedication that sits behind the sport.”
Alongside the launch of the Betfair Bucket List, Racing Staff Week 2026 includes two charity races especially for stable staff and raising vital funds for Racing Welfare. The first race took place at Pontefract on Sunday 21st June and was won by Holly Thomson, riding the Jessica Bedi-trained Brosna Town. The second race takes place on Tuesday 23rd June at Newbury and will be contested by 12 stable staff riders from various training yards. As well as the stable staff races, the week plays host to a busy calendar of community events such as rounders and barbecues, giving opportunities for racing staff across the country to come together and strengthen community connection.
Applications for the Betfair Bucket List close on Monday 6th July 2026, with the winner working with Racing Welfare and Betfair to bring their idea to life ahead of Racing Staff Week 2027.
