Point-to-Point trainers and jockeys are invited to attend Surfaces & Performance: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach, a free two-day course exploring how training and racing surfaces influence equine soundness, performance and welfare.

Delivered by the Horse Welfare Board (HWB), the course will take place at the British Racing School in Newmarket on 19–20 October, from 10am to 4.30pm each day, with arrival from 9.30am. Please note that accommodation is not included.

The course brings together expert speakers from across the industry to explore the relationship between ground conditions and equine welfare, covering topics including biomechanics, surface management, gallop construction and maintenance, injury risk, farriery and technology.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in gallop walks, machinery demonstrations and practical workshops, offering a hands-on approach to understanding the impact of training surfaces on horses.

The first course was extremely well received, and the programme offers valuable insights for Point-to-Point participants, as well as licensed trainers and jockeys.

Places are still available, and those interested are encouraged to register their interest as soon as possible.
