Freezing Point, who became the first four-year-old to win a maiden point-to-point this year on either side of the Irish Sea, changed hands for £65,000 at Tattersalls’ Cheltenham January Sale on Saturday.
Trained in Warwickshire by Fran Nimmo and ridden by James King, Freezing Point won on debut at Buckfastleigh a week ago last Sunday having been bought by his trainer and her husband, Charlie Poste, as a store horse for €15,000. Bloodstock agent Ryan Mahon signed for the son of St Leger winner Arctic Cosmos, and said: “He’s been bought on spec but will be joining Dan Skelton. He’ll be given a bit of time to get over the initial process of training and selling, and should be ready for a bumper by the end of the year.
“He put up a good performance last weekend, winning well on heavy ground and at a stiff track.”
Nimmo and Poste also consigned Red Buccaneer (pictured above in pale blue colours), a five-year-old who was second at Larkhill last month on his sole start to date. The son of Black Sam Bellamy was knocked down to Andrew Jones for £35,000.
Alnwick maiden winner Give Us A Swig changed hands, leaving Tom Ellis’s stable after being bought by racehorse owner Andrew Brooks for £50,000. Brooks, who a few hours earlier had enjoyed a winner on the Cheltenham card courtesy of handicap chase winner Simply The Betts, said: “I went to see Lot 1, and while there I saw this horse, Lot 2, and thought he had great presence. I’ve no idea who will train him at this stage.” Give Us A Swig had been sold as a foal for €6,000.
Ollie Pimlott’s recent Sheriff Hutton point-to-point Flat race winner Ragamuffin also found a buyer when changing hands for £20,000. Bought by Pimlott for €5,000 in August 2018, he is now under the care of Bath trainer Neil Mulholland.
