Amber Jackson-Fennell, who heads the novice women riders’ title, enjoyed a season’s highlight on Saturday when winning Woodford’s final of The Jockey Club’s mares’ maiden series on Grenadine Save.
Twelve months ago the then six-year-old Grenadine Save was trained by Jackson-Fennell and ridden by Will Biddick to finish third in the race. On Saturday she went two places better under her trainer (the pair pictured above jumping the final fence) when beating the odds-on favourite Harbour Queen and Gotadance.

Grenadine Save and the two placed horses are now eligible for a generous bonus which is triggered if and when the trio run at one of the racecourses owned by The Jockey Club. On their first, second or third run at such a track they can double any prize money they win, with Grenadine Save able to double the sum up to £10,000, and the placed mares having a ceiling of £5,000.
Last year’s winner of The Jockey Club Mares’ Maiden Series final at Woodford was the Leslie Jefford-trained Walkin Out, who on Friday ran in a hunters’ chase at Exeter and doubled the money she earned for finishing fourth.
