Harry embarks on his fourth season as a point to point trainer from his base near Crewkerne Somerset hoping to better his very successful season in 2024-25. He trained 12 point to point winners from 30 runners and in addition won his first 2 Hunter Chases at Exeter. He finished the runner up in the Wessex leading trainer award and is looking to go one better in the forthcoming season.
At a recent Open day at his yard he paraded the horses he plans to run this season and in particular highlighted two mares for which he has high hopes. There have been a number of changes to the equine residents following the retirement of Knockmoylan and the likelihood that both Snap Fish and Lady Kloppenheim will miss the new season. In addition, his normal rider Robbie David has taken out a Conditional License so the services of both Will Biddick and Martin Fly McIntyre will be called upon when they are available. His Novice rider Will Higgs will be looking forward to rides on two horses and hopes to secure his first career victory. Harry is now being supported by the highly experienced Kyle James as his Head Lad and Katie Dorsett.
Of the horses that ran last season and are currently in work he commented as follows:-
Another Furlough – His stable stalwart who notched up another two wins last season bringing his winning total to seven to date. Likely to return to his favourite course at Badbury Rings but does have an entry at Lower Machen. Longer terms goals might include a shot at the Cheltenham Foxhunters in March. Will Biddick has been schooling him in readiness for his seasonal debut
Acey Milan – one of the two rides for Will Higgs on this veteran who still retains his ability. It is to be hoped that he will provide that elusive first winner this coming season
Norton Hill – Won 2 Opens last season before finishing 4th at the Cheltenham Hunter Chase evening. Likely to be seen before Christmas depending on the going.
Scoresby – Won at the evening meeting at Cothelstone last season after a rather frustrating time. Has not long been in work so will not be seen until the New Year
My Lucky Star – The second ride for Will Higgs who is aiming to win a Restricted on this mare and is likely to be an early runner for the stable.
Posh Chick (pictured at the top) – one of the two promising mares that Harry is really looking forward to running. Won on her debut at Buckfastleigh under Fly and she is another who is likely to be out early in the hope that she will run up a sequence in her second season
Pebble Rebel – the second mare that created a very favourable impression when winning at the Cothelstone evening meeting . She was making her debut at the age of six but she recorded her victory very easily. Another who is hoped will run before Christmas and will go on to better things
Of the newcomers Harry picked out:
Doyannie – a winning mare who won a Chase for Anthony Honeyball at Plumpton in 2023. Has been to stud since but has returned to racing for owner Jeremy Barber and is likely to be seen before Christmas
Georges Street – A 4-year-old Order of St George gelding bought at Doncaster in May having been third in an Irish point from two outings. Related to the multi winning Sharjah he is to be aimed at an early season Maiden
River Son – A 4-year-old Sholokov gelding bought in Ireland who also had two races in Ireland He is a big flashy athletic sort and has strengthened up in the summer. It is to be hoped he will make his English debut in November
G Whizz – A 4 year old Jack Hobbs filly out of G For Ginger. The dam won three Hurdle races and a Bumper for his owner the late Tim Frost. A likely runner in an early season point to point Bumper and her debut should be watched with interest
