A pair of horses who won Jockey Club-sponsored point-to-point finals last season run today at Warwick.
Malinas Glory (pictured right, above) returns to the course where he was first past the post in the Jockey Club’s inaugural 0-110 Rated Series Final while trained by Hannah Lewis, although he was subsequently disqualified after providing a positive test. Lewis was cautioned, but not fined by the BHA after it was found that a barely discernible leaf of a poppy in a paddock where the horse had been turned out had been the source.
Prior to that he had won point-to-points at Paxford and Chaddesley Corbett, putting together a string of good runs which caught the eye of Shropshire trainer Alastair Ralph. He duly bought the nine-year-old for £11,500 via ThoroughBid’s online May Sale.
Making his stable debut today Malinas Glory is likely to start favourite for the Molson Coors Conditional Jockeys’ Chase (2.30) in which he will be ridden by former point-to-point rider Toby McCain-Mitchell. Among the seven runners are three other horses who have run in British point-to-points, namely Saint Arion, Est Illic and Ballinoulart.
Lady Bee Great won the Jockey Club’s Maiden Mares’ Final at Chaddesley Corbett in late May when she was ridden by men’s champion James King for trainer Luke Price. She then joined Herefordshire trainer Matt Sheppard and has run twice without threatening to reach the frame.

As a bonus for targeting the maiden mares’ final the winner doubles any prize money they earn up to a maximum of £10,000 in their first, second and third outings at Jockey Club-owned racecourses. The placed horses can double their earnings to a maximum of £5,000.
Lady Bee Great makes her first appearance at a Jockey Club-owned track today when running in the Zulus Gonna Get Ya Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (4.15). With Stan Sheppard riding the favourite, former pointer Guts And Glory, King has been called up to make his reacquaintance with Lady Bee Great.
