Recent Garthorpe winner Jolie Joue was sold for £60,000 at Tattersalls Cheltenham’s December Sale on Friday evening.

Led around the ring by his trainer, Cheshire-based Fred Timmis (the pair pictured above), the four-year-old son of Ocovango – who won a maiden race at Hexham in the spring before landing a restricted race on his second start – was knocked down to Dorset trainer Anthony Honeyball. He said: “He’s a very neat, athletic horse – there’s not a lot to not like about him in terms of his physique and he’s a lovely forward going horse with good bone.

“I watched his point-to-point wins and while the Hexham win was workmanlike the restricted race he breezed through in third gear. He jumped well, and while he was slightly awkward at the final two fences he still came right back on the bridle and zoomed away. He’s just a likeable horse.

“Kdeux Saint Fray who we bought here at Cheltenham [£48,000 out of Jack Teal’s yard] ran well at Garthorpe and then won at Dingley and he’s a horse we like. We’ll get him organised [Jolie Joue], get him relaxed and then aim to bring him out in the spring for a bumper. At the moment he’s been bought on spec, but he a nice horse to put in the shop window, either for a syndicate or an individual owner.”

Friday’s sale catalogue also included Hoo’s The Jet, who put in a fast finish when beaten a head in a maiden race at Chaddesley Corbett the previous weekend. The Josh Newman-trained four-year-old was sold to former jockey Darren O’Dwyer and trainer Syd Hosie for £30,000, generating a paper profit on his €11,500 purchase as a three-year-old store.
