Five Bar Gate, the horse who last season carried Will Biddick to a record-extending 600th British point-to-point victory, lines up in a bumper at Newton Abbot in Devon today.

Now a five-year-old, the gelding was trained near Bath by Matt Hampton when winning a point-to-point flat race under Biddick at Larkhill in December 2024 (pictured above). He carried the colours of Myles Osborne and family on that occasion, but was subsequently sold and returns to racing today from the stable of Neil Mulholland.

Conor O’Farrell rides Five Bar Gate, one of 11 runners in the bumper (3.53) which closes the card.

Biddick went on to reach another landmark later in the season when riding his 700th winner in all forms of racing by virtue of a hunters’ chase victory on the Bea Coward-trained Douglas Longbottom.
