RUNNING ORDER DETAILS

  • Hurdle trials over 2 miles (one circuit), when one flight will be jumped soon after the start, with 2 flights down the back straight, and 2 flights at the 5 & 4 furlong markers and one on the run in. EasyFix hurdles to be jumped. This will be followed by
  • Chase Fence trials over 2 miles (one circuit), where 9 fences are available to jump, followed by
  • Bumper (flat) trials
  • Up to 10 horses in each trial 
  • First Trial time: 8:30am – with intervals of approx. 25/30 minutes between sessions.   This may be adjusted in the event of adverse weather conditions. 

WHAT WE PROVIDE 

  • Refreshments available for riders, trainers and owners 
  • Medical and veterinary provision, plus horse ambulance
  • A grounds team to reset between trials 
  • Horse wash down area

Going reports on a regular basis as we close with the date.

ON ARRIVAL 

  • Report to Declarations at least 45 minutes before your designated trial start time
  • Declarations will book you in against entries taken and will assist as required
  • Please ensure that you bring the Passport for each horse as vaccination records will be checked
  • A Disclaimer will be provided for signature

SCHOOLING TRIAL

  • 15 minutes before each session, already mounted, horses are to collect in the paddock 
  • When the course is clear and it is safe to do so, the schooling group will be released by Paddock Stewards to the start
  • On arrival at the start please follow the directions of the Starter
  • After the finish leave the racecourse via the funnel and go directly to the lorry park to unsaddle

THE COURSE

  • The Larkhill course has been adapted to make the top bend more appropriate for schooling and reducing a circuit to 2 miles. This means that there are 9 fences available for the Chase Fence trials, and 6 flights of EasyFix fences will be placed on the outer for the Hurdle Trials.  
  • For the Flat Trials the hurdle flights will be removed to allow horses to travel between their standing wings.

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

  • From the East:
    Proceed along the A303 to the Countess Services roundabout junction of the A303 / A345. Proceed north onto the A345 (signed Upavon / Devizes / Larkhill Garrison) for 2kms and go straight over the Durrington roundabout taking the 2nd exit. Proceed north for another 2kms to a big tank crossing (marked with large metal posts with fluorescent yellow tops and the letter ‘C’). Turn LEFT onto the track and keep heading west for approximately 2.5kms and you will arrive at Larkhill Racecourse on your right. Please proceed slowly, with care and give way to all military traffic.
  • From the West:
    Approaching from the West on the B3086. Turn left onto the track just before entering Larkhill Garrison, signposted Larkhill Racecourse. Follow the track running adjacent to the camp perimeter fence,  suitable for all vehicle types including horse boxes and trailers, for approximately 1.5km. The Racecourse entrance will be on your left
  • SATNAVS:
    For SATNAVS use postcode SP4 8QT to get into the general area. The postcode is for the military camp, so once at Larkhill follow the above directions and use What3Words ///trio.bystander.heads to guide you in.
