Following the abandonment of the planned Schooling Trials Day at Musselburgh on Wednesday 18 February we are delighted to announce the rescheduling of the day to Wednesday 25 February 2026.  Bookings can be made at Musselburgh Schooling Trials (where you will need to register an account).  PLEASE NOTE:  REFUNDS WILL BE MADE TO THOSE HOLDING BOOKINGS FOR WEDNESDAY 18 FEBRUARY.  BOOKINGS WILL NOT BE CARRIED OVER.

We are planning to run:

  1. Hurdle trials over 2 miles (one circuit), where 9 flights are available to jump. This will be followed by
  2. Chase Fence trials over 2 miles (one circuit), where 11 fences are available to jump, followed by
  3. Bumper (flat) trials over 2 miles (one circuit)
  4. Max 10 horses in each trial, with entries taken on a first come, first served basis
  5. Races will be flag starts and riders can omit fences/hurdles if they wish
  6. Raceday medical and veterinary teams in attendance
  7. First Trial time: 11am – with intervals of 25/30 minutes between races
  8. Riders should hold a current licence to ride (professional or amateur) or have held a professional licence (and should not have given it up due to injury)

PLEASE NOTE THAT IN THE EVENT OF INCIDENTS/EMERGENCY THERE MAY BE DELAYS BETWEEN SESSIONS, AND POTENTIAL CURTAILMENT OF THE EVENT.

ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD HAVE APPROPRIATE INSURANCE.  RIABS AND PRIS WILL BE IN PLACE WHERE RELEVANT.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

  1. Viewing from the grandstand and refreshments available for riders, trainers and owners – who we encourage you to bring
  1. Trauma trained doctors, paramedic ambulances, vets and horse ambulance
  2. Horse wash down area at the stables
  3. Stables usage is included in the entry fee

HOW TO BOOK

  1. Bookings for Musselburgh are being taken via Horsemonkey – Musselburgh Schooling Trials where you will need to register an account
  2. Please contact Carina Ewens, Secretary (E: cewens@musselburgh-racecourse.co.uk M: 0784230 2833 who can help you to allocate your horses appropriately according to your needs, once all entries are received
  1. Cost:  ?125 + VAT + ?1.50 booking fee – to include stable, and refreshments for connections
  2. VAT receipts available from the racecourse on request
  3. Entries close at 12pm on Monday 23rd February.
  4. Confirmation of session times and additional information:  12pm on Tuesday 24th February 
  5. Please ensure that the appropriate insurance is in place for participants

ON ARRIVAL

  1. Report to Declarations at least 45 minutes before your designated trial start time (Located at the Racecourse Stables in Stable Manager’s Office)
  2. Declarations will book you in against entries taken and will assist as required
  3. Please ensure that you bring the Passport for each horse asvaccination records will be checked
  4. Brian Harding (jockey coach) will collect jockey disclaimers and brief jockeys in Parade Ring

SCHOOLING TRIAL

  1. Horses will collect in the Parade Ring 15 minutes before the race start time
  2. When the course is clear and it is safe to do so, the schooling group will be released by Paddock Stewards to the start
  3. On arrival at the start follow the directions of the Starter
  4. After the finish, leave the racetrack and go directly to the stables/lorry park

THE COURSE

  1. Each schooling race will start at the 4f marker on the bottom bend
  2. All fences and hurdles in each schooling race are optional
