Before the start of the season Gina Andrews nominated Call Me Early (112) as one of her three horses to follow and, after slightly disappointing when sent off favourite at Chaddesley in early December, he was firmly back on track with a storming win at Ampton. The form of that Chaddesley run had been strengthened after the winner Couer d’Alene had looked certain to follow up before falling on a return to the course over Christmas, and, with hindsight, Call Me Early had faced a stiff task conceding a five pound penalty to Chris Barber’s charge. A taking looking gelding, Call Me Early should continue to progress through the ranks and, having been largely confined to points, would be an interesting contender for the 0-110 restricted series.
On a day of small fields there was little to note otherwise at Ampton although Jorah (98) took the maiden easily and impressed as one who can follow up in a Restricted in due course.
The following day, Hidden Heroics (120) followed up his course victory back in December with another all the way success at Wadebridge. A thorough stayer, rated 130 at his peak when running from the Dan Sketon yard, Hidden Heroics has always been suited racing close to the pace and, being an assured jumper, has provided a dream first season ride for novice Harry Neale. His astute yard can be guaranteed to find Hidden Heroics further opportunities and this time figure suggests that even an Open success may not be out of the question.
There are four scheduled fixtures this weekend with some duplication in entries due to the re-arrangement of Sheriff Hutton. Here are this weekend’s best figures.
