Racing kicks off at Stafford Cross at 1.30pm with 6 scheduled races. Based only a stones throw from the seaside village of Beer, the sharp, right handed track produces some quick times and normally lovely spring racing ground. Entrance is £15pp with under 16s going free. Postcode EX24 6HY.

WBW Solicitors Members Race

John and Floss Symes look like they have a decent hand at retaining the Members Race after taking it last season with Impakt St Georges. They are double handed with the Josh Newman pair Al Gasparo and Beacon Edge, entered in this opening race. Al Gasparo has won four Opens so far this season and remains unbeaten since joining the yard. Beacon Edge took an Open at Wadebridge and Didmarton but did finish last of three at Cotley only last week. The veteran, Joly Maker for trainer Danielle Kenealy, could be the main danger for the Josh Newman pair, but he has not been seen on a racecourse for nearly 11 months. Rebecca Vanstone’s Lady Wilhelmina finished 3rd in the Maiden at Dunsmore and receives a healthy 21lb age allowance in this, but experience could be key against the more experienced horses!

J & FJ Baker Intermediate

Seven entries come forward for the Intermediate and it could be a very hot contest with all deserving a mention! Boys Will Be Boys (Michael Felton) relishes the quicker surfaces and most recently finished 3rd at Chilfrome. Clonagoose has been revolutionary since joining Emma Summersby and has won four of his five races for these connections. Far Out West is a dual winner this season with Will Biddick, most recently beating the decent Ninth Wave. Another for Will Biddick is Good Boy Eric, who was a very close 3rd at Milborne to Off The Press. Heidi McCreesh had Reflex Action in great order at Dunsmore when he finished second to Woodstock Octo, after being off the racetrack for over 1000 days. Luke Price does very well with the ex National Hunt horses and Shareyourbiscuits has already taken three races since leaving Dan Skelton. Talimar Pearl has won his last two starts for trainer Josh Newman including most recently at Cotley.

Lee Clifford Engineering Mixed Open

Ed Doggrell seems to have found the key to Duc de Bourbon and has steered him to victory on his last two outings at both Ston Easton and Chilfrome. As well as Duc de Bourbon, trainer Sam Loxton also brings forward Histronic, who won a Conditions at the beginning of the season, but found Jet Smart too good at Cherrybrook a few weeks ago. The popular mare, Walkin Out for Les Jefford, is still looking for her first win of the season but always comes to her best at this time of year. She has run some good races in defeat including a 2nd to Scoresby at Milborne when she was last seen. Molly Armytage has enjoyed a great season in the saddle and rode Slipway to success for the Luck Family at Siddington. Paul Nicholls has Emailandy entered for daughter Olive to ride. Although gaining a handicap rating of 134 over hurdles, he has had a lacklustre career under rules of late and will need to be back to old form to be competitive in this. The Josh Newman pair, Al Gasparo and Beacon Edge are to be highly considered if not taking up their engagements in the first race.

The Totnes & Bridgetown Races Company Conditions (Level 2)

12 entries have been received for the Grassroots Race which sees riders with 20 winners or less being able to take part. Course winner, Jewel In The Park, took the Restricted on this card last season and comes here in great health, having won on both his starts so far this season for Chris Barber. Holiday Fund finally got his head in front when beating the smart Hidden Heroics at Cherrybrook last time out, gaining another win for current National Leading Owners John & Sonia Gardener. The Kathryn Featherstone owned, trained and ridden Petite Mike won a Conditions Race at High Easter and Parham. Connections could make the long journey down from Mid Surrey in search of another winner for Kathryn, who is currently challenging for National Leading Novice Lady Rider. Duc de Bourbon, Histronic, Emailandy, Slipway and Talimar Pearl have all received another entry in this race.

Lentells Accountants Restricted

Galudon catches the eye among the 10 entered for this race. He is another to have joined Luke Price this season and relished from the switch to Point to Points. He won his Maiden at Buckfastleigh and backed this up by taking a Restricted at Cotley by a neck. He will have to defy a 5lb penalty as will Emmas Wish who won a Restricted at Trebudannon two weeks ago under Darren Andrews. Other recent winners to face the starter could be Savant Du Mesnil, who after a frustrating start to the season, came home in front at Cotley to win his Maiden. The sharp, flat track should only be to his benefit and could help Josh Newman gain another winner to chase Gina Ellis in the Trainers Title. Lucy Mager and Weston Bay took the Members Race at Cothelstone meaning they are now eligible for Restricteds. Ed Rees and Amber Jackson-Fennell have teamed up for plenty of success this season and bring forward Kow Boy Sivola, who won his Maiden by 20 lengths. Follow My Order could find this race an easier option if not running in the Intermediate.

Scott Rowe Solicitors Maiden (NWFAA)

The last race of the day has plenty of promising youngsters looking for their first win. Suvla Bay has run with a huge amount of credit all season and would be a great winner for the Thomas Family. He was on the wrong side of a photo finish at Dunsmore and had to settle for second. The well related Back To Bratton looked very promising when finishing 3rd behind Suvla Bay and could take a big step forward off the back of that previous run for Emma Summersby. Myfanwy’s Magic really deserves to get his head in front and was only beaten 1 length last time out at Bitterley and could give Hannah and Charlie Marshall a first winner as new parents! Rebecca Vanstone’s Lady Wilhelmina, ran very well at Dunsmore in the Mares Maiden but with this being a No Weight For Age Allowance Maiden, she unfortunately is at a disadvantage with her only being 4 years old and having to carry 11st7lb. Chris Barber had an incredible weekend with five winners and will hope to keep the ball rolling with Kings Affinity. He has shown very little in Irish Maidens but Chris does very well with horses in this sphere.
