Mr A Prout AWCF (Farrier) Conditions (Level 2) For Novice Riders
Eleven entries could head to post for the first race of the day at Wadebridge. Course winner, Fighter Allen, has changed stables and joins the Edward Walker yard. He won two Point to Points last season but has to carry a hefty 10lb penalty here for his efforts. Hidden Heroics once held a rating of 137 after winning a Novice Chase at Cheltenham for the Skeltons. Now with Emma Summersby, he will be giving his young jockey, Harry, a first ride over obstacles in public. Another horse looking to make a new stable debut is Investment Manager, who is now with Danielle Kenealy and the Dascombe Family having left Joe Tizzard’s. He has not always looked the most enthusiastic in his races, but the switch back to Points could be a turning point. Sidi Ismael and Mia Holmes were very unlucky not to win at South Hill last season and now in the hands of Mary Sanderson, will be looking to give Mia her first winner. Hannah Morgan enjoyed a fabulous 2024/25 season and has the ride aboard the Joshua Newman trained Getaway Drumlee. Another making a stable debut and has joined a very good yard.
Rock Gin Maiden
The Maiden could provide the largest field or possibly a split on the day with 17 entered. Notable entries are Clonagoose, who has joined Emma Summersby from Aidan Fitzgerald’s yard having finished 5th in a Maiden in October and was placed last season. Emmas Wish (John Heard) had a run at Dunsmore and will come on for the run if this doesn’t come too soon for her. She ran well here last season when being beaten by Talimar Pearl by a head. Will Biddick has Madame Le’strange entered with Charlie Marshall booked to ride. She has been unsuccessful in six Irish Points but is coming from a good yard. Tim Dennis and Jake Bament have had plenty of success when pairing up together and Tim brings forward Mrs Pen, who finished 2nd in the Great Trethew Flat Race a year ago. Joshua Newman brings forward Millyellen, who ran well to finish 4th at Lower Machen over 2m4f. His other potential runner is Savant Du Mesnil, who looks an interesting recruit having last been seen donning the famous double green colours for Stuart Crawford and has plenty of experience over hurdles.
Moores, St Wenn Ltd Ladies Open
With the unfortunate news of Izzie Hill being on the sidelines for a while after a fall at home, Ellie Holder is booked to take the reins upon Amrons Sage, who won on seasonal debut in the Ladies at Lower Machen a month ago. Chasing him down could be last year’s winner of this race, Hearts Corner, for trainer Joshua Newman, who also has Caspers Court entered. Caspers Court enjoyed a fruitful 2024/25 season, winning his last 3 starts and comes here with Matilda Garton making her riding debut. Five time chase winner, Camino Rocio, brings another angle to this race having won over three miles and has the experienced Thomasina Eyston booked to ride. Now with Ed Rees, who does a good job with his small string, he could find the key to this horse coming back into the Point to Point ranks.
R&J Trevarthen Ltd Mens Open
Champion Point to Point trainer, Joshua Newman, has Al Gasparo looking to make his debut for the stable here. Still only 6 years old, he is 3 time hurdle winner including a Listed Hurdle at Leopardstown last December for Gavin Cromwell. He finished down the field in the Coral Cup Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival in March and although being a classy horse, his form is all over shorter trips. Punches Cross has thoroughly enjoyed his time in Point to Points, having won 5 and is a very versatile type. He has only ever been out the placings once on his 9 starts from Danielle Kenealy. Poppa Poutine will have come on for the run at Lower Machen when finishing 3rd behind St Cuthberts Cave, who has since won again. Poppa Poutine has been competitive off a highest mark of 131 and ran well in the big winter handicap chases for Nigel Twiston Davies. Multiple double entries appear in this race such as Hearts Corner, Fighter Allen and Camino Rocio.
Exeter Racecourse Intermediate
The strong travelling Noble Blue was probably the most impressive performance of the day when running away with the field at Dunsmore and came home unchallenged in the 0-110 Rated Series Race. Joshua Newman will have the choice between him and Talimar Pearl, who ran with plenty of credit too at Dunsmore finishing 2nd. Dawn Supreme was only seen 3 times last season over a 4 week period and won both a Maiden and Restricted for James Shaw and John Heard before pulling up on his last start. Assassins Lullaby, for Janet Ackner, finished 3rd at Badbury Rings and probably wouldn’t want the ground turning too soft for him. He will be partnered by Jack Stenhouse, who holds his novice riders status and claim with the new rules this season and will be trying to give the Novice Riders Championship a good go.
Direct Enviro Services Restricted
The last race of the day could go the way of A Force To Reckin, who ran very well in defeat at Dunsmore behind Catch Me Quick. They went a fierce gallop on this occasion and could not get to the winner from the back of the last. Jack Veysey does a great job with his horses and the 5lb penalty should not be a problem. Poet’s Muse has not been seen since winning the Mare’s Maiden at Vauterhill. Being a filly and a 4 year old, she receives a 14lb allowance and should be competitive off this weight for Robert Chanin. Impakt St Georges (Joshua Newman) has some good form in strong races and won a Maiden comfortably at Larkhill in January. He went on to win a two runner Hunt Members easily and finished behind Jewel In The Park at Holnicote. Dawn Supreme and Assassins Lullaby could both opt for this race if wanting to avoid the Joshua Newman pair in the Intermediate, but will both have to carry a 5lb penalty for already winning a Restricted.
