Dunsmore holds the first Point to Point for the Devon and Cornwall Area for the 2025/26 season and it looks as if we will be in for some exciting racing! Previous meetings held at Dunsmore have given the crowds plenty of excitement and several top yards hold entries at the first of two meetings here. The course is open for schooling on Monday 24th, which has always been well supported. The first race is due off at 12:30pm and tickets are available online in advance, or by cash and card on the day. Dogs are welcome on leads. Postcode EX5 4DU.

The Goffs “GB Pointing Bonus” Young Horse MAIDEN Series Race

This race has been well supported from several top yards and we could see a star of the future. Christopher Barber brings forward Peter de L Orme, who has race fitness on his side having ran well at Lower Machen two weeks ago when finishing 3rd. Champion Point to Point trainer Joshua Newman, has two entries which include the unraced Hoo’s The Jet and the interesting Woodstock Octo, who finished 2nd last time he was seen in Ireland before being purchased through Goffs UK HIT Spring Sale. Will Biddick brings forward the 4yo filly Next Gen, who fell on debut at the last when in 3rd place, but showed plenty of promise. Emmas Wish for John Heard, has not been seen since finishing 2nd by a head to Talimar Pearl at Wadebridge last December. Both Electric City (Ian Chanin) and Get To The Point (Megan Lawrence) both showed plenty of ability last season finishing in the placings and will have benefitted from the experiences.

The Jockey Club Keagan Kirkby Remembrance 0-110 RATED Series Race

The first of the new 0-110 rated Series Race is a great initiative and has 7 entries here. Francesca and Charlie Poste, who have recently become parents to Isaac, have Kilfilum Woods entered. He built up a great partnership with Champion Lady Novice Rider, Clara Brewitt and together, they notched up a hat-trick of wins, including a Hunter Chase at Huntingdon. Joshua Newman has the ever so impressive Noble Blue entered, who won with his head in his chest at Flete Park by 20 lengths. Robert Chanin has course winner Call Simon entered with Aran McManus in the saddle. The duo came home the winners of the Mixed Open at Chipley when dead heating with Fighter Allen.

The Exeter Racecourse INTERMEDIATE Series Qualifier Race

A very hotly contested Intermediate could turn out to be a very interesting race with all 6 entries worth a mention. Christopher Barber’s Jewel In The Park had a brilliant 2024/25 season and did get the better of Talimar Pearl and Boys Will Be Boys at Stafford Cross. Talimar Pearl (Joshua Newman) and Boys Will Be Boys (Michael Felton) both hold entries in this race but will need to be at their best to beat Jewel In The Park, especially with Chris already having two winners on the board this season. Megan Lawrence is doubly represented with King De Palma and Minella Jab looking to make their debuts for the season. Minella Jab ran a cracking race at Cheltenham Hunter Chase evening in May 2024 but has not been seen since pulling up at Bratton Down two weeks after this. King De Palma holds an entry in the Restricted later on in the card and may find that an easier option. If Darren McAlinden’s horses are in the same form as his boss, Nicky Martin’s horses, then Lucky So And So should not be dismissed. Two from four in Points in 2023, including a 2nd and 3rd, a switch back to Points could be the key to getting him back in the winner’s enclosure after losing his way under rules.

The A&S Paving Ltd MIXED OPEN Race

Grade 1 winner Beacon Edge, catches the eye in the Mixed Open for Joshua Newman. With a CV that speaks for itself, he has kept himself in impressive company for the past few seasons and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the Point to Point sphere after reaching a peak rating of 158. Illico de Cotte (Will Biddick) already has a run under his belt having finished 2nd at Lower Machen and was an eye catcher on the day and will surely have come on for the run. Grandads Cottage is now with Nicky Sheppard having joined the Herbert Family from Olly Murphys. He is another who should enjoy the switch back to Points. Connections also have Yippee Ki Yay entered, who was lightly raced last season and unseated at the Foxhunters at Aintree. Jack Veysey has an incredible strike rate with his horses and has Grangeclare Glory entered for his seasonal reappearance. He won two Condition Races last season and this will be his first dip into Open company.

The Heltor Fuels Ltd RESTRICTED Race

Arron Jones and Darren Andrews team up in the Restricted with Myfanwy, who ran a cracking race at Lower Machen on her seasonal debut to finish 2nd. If coming out of that race in good order, she could be the one to catch here, but still has some way to go to chase her mother’s incredible tally of 35 wins! Pebble Rebel won impressively on debut last season at Cothelstone for Harry Ryall but could lack the racecourse experience. A Force To Reckin and Jack Veysey will have to carry a 5lb penalty for having already won a Restricted last season but could be the main danger to Myfanwy. Lucky So And So and King De Palma could find this race an easier option than the earlier Intermediate and neither should be ruled out in this.

The Luxton Plant Hire & Steve Yeandle Contracting MAIDEN Race (NWFAA)

Electric Jet for leading owners John & Sonia Gardener, looks to be a very exciting new addition to the Joshua Newman yard. He is a full brother to Jet Smart, who has won two chases under rules over the summer. Electric Jet has decent under rules form including a 2nd over fences at Ludlow for Charlie Longsdon. Dollanstown was picked up for £13,000 out of Peter Flood’s yard at the Goffs UK HIT Sale in May. The son of Jet Away is now in the hands of Will Biddick and should be competitive in this. French Symphony is an interesting recruit to Points having reached a best rating of 109 for Ben Pauling and is now with Justin Brotherton, who does very well with a small string of horses. Several cases were made last season for Ballinoulart but unfortunately it never came together on the day for him. He has several decent placings and will be looking to give Holly Chaston, a first winner as a keeper. Emmas Wish also holds an entry in this Maiden if swerving the first.
