The Pytchley with Woodland meeting at Dingley will take place on Easter Saturday, 4th of April.
Tickets are still available online on the Midlands Pointing website, they are priced with a small discount online. They will be £20 to include a racecard at the gate on the day.
The Dingley Racecourse is on Harborough Road, just East of Market Harborough (LE16 8PJ).
This is always a busy meeting with many spectators, local and from further afield, being at the start of the holiday weekend. We anticipate there will be large crowds and recommend that visitors aim to be parked up on the course in good time for the start of racing at 2pm to avoid sitting in a queue.
The Easter Saturday racecard includes six races starting at 2pm, and a lot more besides. The Dingley course always attracts one of the largest trade stand villages and there will be amusements for the children, a bar bookmakers for the adults and plenty to see and do.
This meeting has attracted 61 entries which is good. There are a large number of Easter Weekend fixtures around the country, all with different ground conditions and races. This means that owners and trainers have a lot of choice and therefore sometimes hedge their bets by entering horses in several different races, or even different meetings.
The big race of the day is the third race on the card, at 3.10pm, the MacIntyre Hudson Mixed Open Race, which has some very good horses among its nine entries.
Aramax is owned by a syndicate largely made up from Dingley regulars so he will start as the popular favourite in most eyes. Trained in Newmarket by Jennifer Owen, he has won his last two outings impressively, but won’t have it all his own way in this field. Champion Jockey Gina Andrews trains and rides Cheytac, three years junior to Aramax and another to have won his last two point-to-points, but this horse is also entered in two other meetings and Gina’s string are entered all over the country, so they may not be at Dingley. Amber Jackson-Fennell has the ride on board Camino Rocio for this one, a first season pointer with reasonable form under this jockey. However they ran last Sunday and may not recover for this. Janika is a veteran pointer trained by the Turner family in Suffolk. As close second place in the Ladies at Higham in February was a good start to the season. Also from the Gina Andrews string comes Tigerbythetail (Molly Legg), with two runs in points, the most recent a dead heat to win the Cothelstone Mixed Open in mid-March. Potters Party represents the Kelly Morgan stable, with Ellie Callwood in the plate. Two runs this season, the last a second place at Alnwick behind Largy Shark. Coachman was second last time for Laura Pomfret at Guilsborough behind Aramax.
The day’s racing starts at 2pm with a Hunt Members race which incorporates prizes for subscribers to the three packs which have meetings at Dingley.
Local owner/trainer and jockey Dale Peters has two entered for this race, Byorderofthecourt – a very well-rated restricted horse – and Cash Or Card who won last time out at Guilsborough. He tells me his preference is to run Byorderofthecourt, a horse he previously sold on to Paul Nicholls, and then to run Cash or Card in the next. Kelly Morgan brings forward Bothwell Bridge (Ellie Callwood) which is owned by a Dingley syndicate and has been steadily improving this season. Stuart Morris has entered both Champagne Glory and Mylesfromwicklow , one of which will run and be ridden by Charlie Case. Another with a second entry is Coachman for Laura Pomfret.
The Conditions Race (Level 2) which is next has 12 entries, three of which are rated over 110. Call Me Early may represent the G & T Racing string but has entries elsewhere too, as do Nick Wright’s Clashhill and Fame And Concrete, and Toss Again for Jennifer Owen. Potters Party, Mylesfromwicklow, Cash Or Card, Champagne Glory, and Coachman all have entries in this entries too. Francesca Poste trains In Our Dreams which is looking to improve on a third place finish at Guilsborough. Kelly Morgan trains Dusart for John Chatfeild-Roberts, third on his opening run of this season.
After the Mixed Open we have a Restricted followed by two maidens.
The Greedy Gordons Restricted Race has 12 entries, including Maxfly d’Agrostis, the six-year-old trained by Laura Horsfall which made all to win at Garthorpe a fortnight ago. They will have tough opposition for this one though.
Andrew Pennock-trained Trojan du Berlais leads the ratings in this line-up but was nearly pulled-up on his last trip in Intermediate company. Il Padrino won last time out for Louise Bevin, beating Pillar To Post, trained by Kelly Morgan for The Old Meltonians into second Louise also has Dr Doodlebug entered. Nick Wright’s entered both Arkle Rua and Steppingstone (Cian Murphy) and will presumably decide on the day. Graveside Lad will represent the Turner family having finished fourth behind Il Padrino last time. Gina Andrews has the ride, if she’s there, on Validation, trained by Nigel Padfield.
The first of the two maiden races is an open maiden over three miles sponsored by Berry Accountants and includes Dale Peters and Toby Hunt’s Natureofthegame, which makes its racecourse debut. Ones to watch here include Dr Doodlebug, Leopard d’Irlande and Red Letter Day but there are lots of unknown here. Several in the book have entries in the mares and fillies maiden which follows as well.
The Jockey Club Maiden for Mares and Fillies is run over two and a half miles which means they will start near the finish line at the base of the hill at Dingley. Amber Jackson-Fennell has the ride on the Rees’s Dreamaboutit here while Run Around Susie (Jack Teal) and Wildkatze (Carla Brewitt) are also ones to watch. Magnafaik, Rebel Aura and Kalyeeda Creek all claim a stone advantage as four-year-olds, Magnafaik and Rebel Aura making their racecourse debuts. Chiroqui Princess is one with an entry in the previous race but will be one to watch wherever she runs. Stuart Morris trains Lily My Girl who may need to improve to win in this company.
Watering continues to ensure that the track will be just how the Clerk wants it come Saturday. Please respect the wishes of the land owner and don’t walk until Friday. Many Thanks
