Larkhill hosts its final meeting for the current season when the Tedworth hold their annual fixture on Saturday. There are six scheduled races due to start at 12.30 which is preceded by a Charity flat race at 12 noon. There will be a variety of trade stands, a beer tent with live music after racing, kids entertainment and a dog show at a cost of £2 per class. The usual cost of entry is currently £15 early bird and £20 on the gate and tickets can be obtained from gbpointing.co.uk. There is also some VIP parking at a further £10 extra payable in cash. Under 16s are free when accompanied by an adult.

The current going report is good with a forecast of light rain during the week. The bends have been moved and the rails after the twelfth fence have been moved out as far as possible and racing will take place on the inner line

The feature race is the Tedworth Gold Cup sponsored by Lycetts Insurance Brokers run over three miles six furlongs and of the entries One True King boasts the most recent form having dead heated in a long-distance Open race at Cothelstone and the going is not likely to be as testing as that race. Crawter ran well at the last Larkhill meeting but made no show in a Hunter Chase at Exeter on his last outing. His ability to stay this extended distance is to be taken on trust. Soldier Unknown was runner up at Kingston Blount over 4 miles so his ability to stay is guaranteed and he would be the selection. Dorset Diamond only ran last week and this consistent gelding is another with no experience of this further trip.

The meeting begins with the Kimpton Down Restricted race and this includes the recent Howick winner Shareyourbiscuits trained by Luke Price. Formerly with Dan Skelton this may be another from Luke’s stable who builds up a number of wins during the season. Dorset Dazzler has won his two races at Larkhill but he ran last week in a hot race and this might come too soon. Walkingtheline also won at Howick and he may be the biggest danger to Luke’s representative who is the selection

The PPORA Club Members Conditions race sponsored by Lacock Dairy may see another appearance of Lsvorante who was beaten at Charlton Horethorne but may prefer this better surface. Of his likely rivals Tara Storm should come on for his seasonal debut and on the basis of his 2024 form he would be the pick. Farnoge ran very well when second to Corporal Jackjones but made no show on his next outing. Sublime Heights ran well when third on his last outing and he might be a more sporting bet than the others mentioned above.

The Jockey Club and Butterworth Family sponsored Mares Maiden race over two and a half miles includes Lightning Legs runner up to Walkingtheline at Howick and if he is successful in the opening race then the hint should be taken. Chris Barber introduces the once raced Taktics and this former Tom Symonds hurdler should be watched. Winding Lake has been placed twice this season and again the better ground may suit her. Luke Price the trainer of Lightning Legs also has Rhythm of Life an ex Gordon Elliott trained mare entered and if she is his choice then she would be the choice.

The PH Heritage sponsored Conditions race for Novice Riders holds entries for Farnoge, One True King and Sublime Heights already mentioned in earlier races. This appears to be a weaker race so any of those mentioned may be the one to support. Fighter Allen is proving to be a good schoolmaster for James Pyman and may give him his first winning ride after being second at Buckfastleigh and he is selected

The meeting concludes with an Open Maiden sponsored by the Tedworth Ladies. Lightning Legs holds an entry in this race and if this is chosen she should be considered. Skeeter Rock was due to run at Ston Easton but that race was void so this is his next option and his run at Didmarton must give him every chance. Roxhill was a good second to Seven Kites at Larkhill and a repeat of that form might be good enough. Stick Season is another from Chris Barber’s stable who did not relish the soft ground at Cothelstone and may prefer this better surface. Clody Pearl trained locally ran well on her English debut and will improve. Valentin De Maine was fourth earlier in the season and he is another with chances. Chris Barber’s chosen runner is the pick.
