The large crowd was treated to some excellent racing on a warm sunny day. All participants appreciated the watering that Clerk of The Course Richard Garton and his team had done to produce good to soft ground on the day. The highlight of the meeting was a treble for leading jockey James King courtesy of Prince in The Park in the Restricted, Lavorante in the Conditions Race (Level 2) and Spanish Darling in the concluding Maiden.

In the Restricted, King held up Prince in The Park and came with a good run to lead after three out and had an easy task when his nearest rival French Symphony fell at the next. Luca Morgan’s charge was following up on his Maiden win at Kingston Blount the previous week.

In the Conditions (Level 2) the favourite Lavorante led throughout and was driven out to hold off the late challenge of Huw Edwards on Rewritetherules by three lengths. In the Maiden, King had the Maisemore Park bumper winner Spanish Darling in front from three out and held off the late challenge of Antonia Heraghty having her first ride on Dazzlelikethis, by a length. This completed a training double for Luca Morgan.

It could have been a four-timer for King who made rapid progress to lead three out on the favourite Just Lucky Sivola in the opening Conditions Race (Level 3), but was outpaced by Fred Philipson-Stow on Amidnightstar from the next, going down by one-and-a-half lengths. The winner has been leased to Lynn Wallace by Richard Evans and is trained by Tom Britten. The nine-year-old mare is a half-sister to Big City Roller and had previously won a hurdle at Hereford three years ago.

Only two runners contested the two-and-a-half mile Mixed Open and Henry Crow sent Gracchus de Balme into a clear lead from flagfall and came home alone when the other runner Just Touch pulled up at the twelfth fence. Joe O’Shea’s 2025 Aintree Foxhunter winner will now be aimed at an end-of-season Hunter Chase at Cartmel.

In the Conditions Race (Level 1), course specialist Buzzard Trix ridden by Daniel Williams kept on well in the closing stages to hold off Gina Andrews’ strong challenge on favourite Padjoes Legacy by half-a-length. Heidi Brookshaw’s twelve-year-old has now won his last five races at Tabley.
