The feature of the Easter Saturday meeting was the Mixed Open with four declared runners. Heidi Palin on Midnight River was left in the lead when Ocean Drifter fell at the ninth and steadily went clear to win by thirty lengths from Paul Marvel. Trainer Bridget Skelton had originally intended to wait for the Mixed Open on Easter Monday at Eyton, but switched to Sandon due to the more suitable soft ground. Clara Brewitt had a nasty fall on Ocean Drifter and dislocated her hip, which was put back in place the following day.

The opening Members was won by Felix Barlow on Mayor Kingston, who followed up from his Maiden victory at Bangor the previous month and continued the great run of trainer Neil Gittins. The seven-year-old gelding was closely followed by the favourite Poncherello who weakened quickly from three out, and easily won by twenty-five lengths from Rewritetherules.

Henry Crow on Boley Bob extended their sequence to four wins in a row, when taking it up after the third last and beating Peaches and Cream by fourteen lengths in the PPORA Conditions Race (Level 2). Trainer Joe O’Shea had intended to run the gelding in the Intermediate Final at Cheltenham, but with that race moving to Warwick, he may go to the Heart of All England at Hexham instead.

Ed Doggrell made most of the running on the favourite Noble Thistle in the two miles and five furlongs Maiden. However, Henry Main on Isabel de Clare came with a good run to lead at the last and stayed on well for a two-and-a-half length victory. The six-year-old mare was acquired by the Hell Raisers Club for £3,800 at the February Tattersalls online sale from the Tom Ellis stable, and is trained by Gillon Crow.

There were only two runners for the two miles and five furlongs Conditions Race (Level 2), but it provided the closest finish of day. Huw Edwards on Amidnightstar led from flagfall and had a clear lead two out, only to be caught close home by Ed Doggrell on Couer D’Alene. Chris Barber’s charge has now won four times this season.

Tommie O’Brien won the concluding four-and five-year old Flat Race in convincing fashion on College Road by twenty lengths. It was also his first win as a trainer. The five-year-old gelding was bred by the jockey’s parents and the owning Grange Partnership are all family members. Interestingly, Tommie’s first ever ride was on the dam Gerannjo in a handicap hurdle at the 2009 Galway Festival.
