This weekend saw racing take place at Easingwold point to point course, a fantastic crowd was in attendance as has been the case for most of the season…
The opening race was void with no runners which left a six-race card on offer starting with a Level 3 Conditions race and would continue what was a very fruitful weekend for Joe wright who also scored on Saturday at Overton.
Snow Castle would start Joe’s good fortune and it was also the first of two winners for trainer Guy Brewer, the pair made all the running under a forceful ride from Joe Wright and stayed on strongly up the final run in to score well, Fivecardstud chased the pair home in second under Harry Carlisle. Snow Castle was winning again for the first time since February of 2020 and it is hoping this could rekindle his good form.
The jockey and trainer completed their doubles on the day in the penultimate race the Level 2 Conditions race courtesy of River Frost. With only Roycano and John Dawson as their only challengers the pair were together until the final fence, however River Frost pulled out more up the final stretch to secure his victory. It was a deserved win for River Frost who had previously recorded three seconds and after been picked up for only £4,500 at Doncaster sales he looks a fun and competitive horse to go to war with.
The Open Maiden saw the largest field of the day and there was no warmer reception than that for the Lynne Ward trained Whostosay, piloted by Ross Wilson and owned by the locally based Frank Wood, the winner made all the running and was hounded all the way up the straight but could never be caught. Elusive Secret filled second under the in form Joe Wright, whilst Ridelonglivelong was showing his first signs of ability in third under Jack Power. Bought back in 2018 for £800, perseverance has been the key here and despite showing signs of ability it looks as though fast ground has been the key to his success.
The Ladies Open saw an exciting finish as the southern raider Ryans Fancy flashed home up the Easingwold hill to deny Royal Chant on the line. Alice Stevens made most of the running on the Cherry Coward trained Royal Chant, however despite looking beat in the home straight Immy Robinson got an excellent tune out of her mount to win close home.
Poncherello was another raider from the south in the Restricted for trainer Tim Garton under rider Henry Crow, the pair always looked to have the race in hand and charged 15 lengths clear of Whitechurch to win comfortably.
The Men’s Open was an easy victory for Hurricane Vic and Tom Broughton as the odds on favourite Pillowman and Christy Furness stumbled and fell on the flat with half a circuit to go, thankfully both were ok and Hurricane Vic was allowed to come home in splendid isolation.
