Matchadam and Mount Etna, who finished first and second in a 15-runner young-horse maiden at Larkhill on Sunday, are joining the line-up for tomorrow’s inaugural Goffs UK Tingle Creek Sale at Sandown Park.
The two British pointers form part of a 16-lot catalogue which will go under the hammer after racing.
Matchadam, a son of the Monsun stallion Manatee, became a first British winner for Herefordshire-based trainer Eamonn O’Donnhbhain when beating the Chris Barber-trained Mount Etna by a head, although the runner-up lost little in defeat. The pair are pictured above jumping the last, with Mount Etna (Martin McIntyre) on the far side just leading Matchadam (Tommie O’Brien).
With prices for Irish point-to-pointers proving too high for some pockets there has been increasing interest in British pointers, and a steady stream of victories by by them under Rules has added to their appeal. The list gained another name on Wednesday when Mr Vango made a successful hurdling debut at Haydock.
A six-year-old, Mr Vango scored at Horseheath last season for Barber’s Dorset stable and was subsequently sold at Tattersalls Cheltenham February Sale to Oxfordshire trainer Mark Bradstock. Wednesday’s victory in a maiden hurdle came on the gelding’s first start under Rules.
