Woodstock Octo has triggered his GB Pointing Bonus at no better stage than the home of jump racing, Cheltenham Racecourse.

It was a fantastic result for owners John and Sonia Gardener, who are huge supporters of British pointing, alongside Josh and Kayley Newman.

Partnered by Ben Jones, Woodstock Octo produced an impressive performance to land the 3m William Hill Extra Places Every Day Novices’ Hurdle, making it a particularly fitting victory given that Jones himself started his career in British pointing.

Woodstock Octo has carried his winning momentum from the pointing field straight into his under-rules career. Having won six consecutive point-to-points last season, the Irish-bred gelding made a winning start under rules and he has now added a Cheltenham victory to his record.

The victory also sees Woodstock Octo collect £15,000 through the GB Pointing Bonus scheme, providing another significant reward for connections and highlighting the pathway from the British pointing field to the racecourse.

It also backs up a fantastic day for British pointing yesterday, following Kingofthefrontier’s Grade 2 victory in the 2m Novices’ Hurdle for trainer John Dawson who was the first horse to trigger the GB Pointing Bonus back at Southwell in June.

With Woodstock Octo now unbeaten across his last seven starts, connections can look forward to an exciting future and his success at Cheltenham provides yet another reminder of the quality and opportunity that British pointing continues to produce.
